Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez are bound to have one of the most talked-about and luxurious weddings of the year. As details begin to trickle out about their big day, it feels like anything is possible - and honestly, believable. But some of the more over-the-top rumors, specifically about who’s performing, might not hold up.
Earlier today, the Daily Mail reported that the billionaire and Emmy Award–winning reporter had booked not one, but two global icons: Lady Gaga and Elton John, to perform at their ceremony this June in Venice, Italy.
According to the outlet, Sánchez “wanted some big talent to sing for them,” and a source claimed Gaga and Elton were “good friends and were happy to do it together."
While budget is likely not an issue for Bezos, whose net worth is reportedly $206.7 billion, the claim has been swiftly shut down. A source told Page Six that Lady Gaga is not performing, adding that she has no overseas weddings on her calendar.
No word yet on whether the same applies to Elton John, whose private performance fees range from $2.5 million to $6 million, according to Celebrity Talent International. Again, well within Bezos’ budget.
And while wedding singers typically aren't the most famous people in the room, A-listers have definitely been known to take the gig for the right price. Just last year, Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant reportedly paid Justin Bieber $10 million to perform at their pre-wedding party - and Rihanna somewhere between $8 - 9 million.
What we know about the wedding
The guest list
Even if Gaga and Elton aren’t doing a duet, there will still be plenty of star power there. Oprah Winfrey, Kim Kardashian, Ivanka Trump, Bill Gates, Queen Rania of Jordan, and Katy Perry are all expected to attend.
According to The Times, local officials in Venice have confirmed that four luxury hotels and a fleet of water taxis have been rented out for the event. Some are speculating that the ceremony itself could take place on Bezos' $500 million superyacht, the Koru - the same ship where he proposed to Sánchez in May 2023 with a 30-carat diamond ring while docked in the South of France.
In the lead-up to the big day, the couple was recently spotted at Dolce & Gabbana in Milan for wedding fittings. And according to Il Gazzettino, it was designer Domenico Dolce himself who pushed for Venice to be the wedding location. Morris Ceron, director general of the Venice council, said, “Seven months ago, Domenico Dolce told me Bezos was getting married. I got to work to bring this marriage of the century to Venice - that’s how it started.”
Luigi Brugnaro, the mayor of Venice, confirmed that the city was “in competition with other places,” but with Ceron’s lobbying, Venice came out on top.
