Queen Mary of Denmark is proving that royal elegance doesn't have to mean playing it safe. The Danish queen stepped out in Copenhagen on Thursday, October 22, embracing a sophisticated autumn ensemble that combined timeless tailoring with a slightly unexpected fashion choice.
Known for her polished wardrobe and ability to balance classic silhouettes with contemporary trends, Mary opted for a chic brown leather midi skirt, giving her latest royal look a modern edge while maintaining the understated sophistication that has become her signature.
The queen paired the statement piece with a fitted black high-neck top and a tailored black coat, creating a sleek contrast against the rich brown tone of her skirt. She completed the ensemble with coordinating brown boots and a structured black handbag, bringing together a look that felt both professional and fashion-forward.
The leather skirt was undoubtedly the standout element. While the material is often associated with edgier street-style ensembles, Mary's interpretation demonstrated how it can easily become part of an elegant, refined wardrobe.
The midi length and streamlined silhouette kept the outfit sophisticated, while the combination of black and brown offered a fresh take on traditional autumn dressing.
Her choice also reflected one of the season's most versatile styling formulas, combining rich textures with neutral colors. Rather than relying on bold accessories or elaborate details, the queen allowed the contrast between her leather skirt and classic outerwear to make the statement.
A meaningful engagement in Copenhagen
Beyond her stylish appearance, Queen Mary had an important engagement on her calendar. The royal attended a meeting of the Queen Mary's Center Advisory Committee at Thoravej 29 in Copenhagen's Nordvest district.
The venue itself provided an interesting backdrop for the occasion. Once an industrial building, the space has been transformed into a creative and collaborative environment, with an emphasis on sustainability, reusing materials, and bringing new ideas to life.
During the meeting, committee members discussed what the Queen Mary's Center could learn from other countries' experiences with research advisory practices.
Established at the University of Copenhagen in February 2022 to mark Mary's 50th birthday, the center brings together expertise from the humanities and social sciences to address complex societal challenges and strengthen connections between academic research and practical solutions.
The Advisory Committee meets approximately twice a year at different locations, offering opportunities to exchange perspectives and provide guidance on the center's work.
Mary also participated in a tour of the building, where particular attention was given to its architecture and innovative approach to repurposing existing materials.
The engagement highlighted the queen's continued involvement with an initiative that carries her name and reflects her longstanding interest in social development, research, and collaboration.
And while the meeting focused on important academic and societal issues, Mary's latest appearance offered another memorable fashion moment, proving that even the most understated royal wardrobe can benefit from an unexpected twist.
