When it comes to Princess Leonor, the outfits she’s worn to the Princess of Asturias Awards have never been simply about fashion. The heir to the Spanish throne made her debut at the ceremony that bears her name in 2019, days shy of her 14th birthday. In the years since, she’s grown from a girl into a young woman, with her wardrobe reflecting that story in real time.
“Fashion also speaks to her institutional role and knows how to adapt to the protocol of the occasion and to her age, taking care with every detail of each piece of her styling and showing a clear evolution toward great maturity,” says HOLA! Spain's fashion editor Luis Javier Merino.
With less than 24 hours to go before Leonor once again takes the stage at Oviedo’s Teatro Campoamor to deliver her speech, here’s a look back at every outfit she’s worn to the ceremony.
2025: A brocade dress with old Hollywood polish
For 2025, Leonor debuted an aubergine brocade dress in a midi length that instantly called Grace Kelly to mind. The twist? It was from H&M, and at the time, it had been marked down from 69.99 euros to 49.99 euros. She brought back a favorite pair of Carolina Herrera slingback pumps and finished the look with teardrop amethyst earrings belonging to her mother, Queen Letizia.
2024: The tuxedo that changed everything
In 2024, Leonor skipped the dress entirely and went for the sleek elegance of a black tuxedo with a matching vest. She paired it with coordinating pumps, the Yaiza model from PINKCHIC, along with earrings by Spanish jeweler Yanes from her mother’s collection, a gift Letizia received for her wedding to Felipe.
2023: Tweed meets tulle
In 2023, the princess chose a two-piece by Spanish designer Moisés Nieto. The navy ensemble paired a short-sleeved tweed top with a V-neck, cinched at the waist by a peplum ruffle (a trend that was making a powerful comeback on the runways at the time), with a fine, softly pleated tulle skirt that grazed her ankles.
She completed the look with pointed suede slingback pumps in the same shade from Spanish label Mascaró. Her earrings, once again, came from her mother: a convertible design of double hoops set with aquamarines, white gold and diamonds. For years, the pieces were attributed to Bvlgari, but they're reportedly a gift that Felipe gave Letizia when Leonor was born.
2022: Two-tone and sequined
That year, Leonor opted for a black-and-white Michael Kors dress with a tropical print and sequins, a round neckline and long, slightly puffed sleeves. The straight, above-the-knee silhouette was finished with a dark band across the skirt. She paired it with Chanel ear climbers, another piece borrowed from Queen Letizia’s jewelry box.
2021: A fresh look in a bold print
It remains one of her most daring and most applauded looks. Leonor chose a dress with a silhouette that was unusual for her: fitted through the body, then flaring into an ’80s-inspired ruffled hem at miniskirt length. The checked design was by Bgo & Me, a label that works entirely by hand in its Galicia workshops, and it was finished with a black bow at the upper back.
2020: Embroidery and a delicate heel
Finding a look that left her childhood wardrobe behind and helped shape her grown-up image wasn’t easy, but she pulled it off. The princess wore a design with a jewel neckline, three-quarter sleeves, and a bodice covered in sparkling sequin embroidery that contrasted with a plain skirt. She paired it with soft camel kitten heels.
2019: Her Princess of Asturias Awards debut
It was the first time Princess Leonor gave a speech at the ceremony, and she did it in a classic pastel blue dress with a jewel neckline. The design featured a fitted waist, a full pleated skirt, three-quarter sleeves, and a lace finish. Its origin has never been revealed, suggesting it may well have been an exclusive piece made to measure for her. She wore it with gold ballet flats with a rounded toe and a little bow at the top.
