Queen Letizia brought a little drama to classic evening tailoring as she joined King Felipe VI in Helsinki. For a reception with members of the Spanish community in Finland on October 5, the queen chose a black tuxedo suit whose feathered sleeves gave the otherwise sleek outfit a playful finish.
The appearance marked the opening day of the couple’s trip, which runs through October 7 and includes Helsinki and Rovaniemi. Spain’s royal household says the visit is intended to strengthen ties between the two countries, with education, culture, science and innovation among the areas on the agenda.
Letizia’s outfit made its statement through texture. Her fitted jacket featured contrasting satin lapels and black feathers around the lower sleeves, creating a striking silhouette whenever she moved her hands. Tonal embellishments added another layer of detail to the cuffs.
A simple black top with a straight neckline kept the focus on the jacket, while slim, ankle-length trousers balanced the volume of the feathers. The proportions gave the ensemble an evening feel without losing the sharp lines of a tailored suit.
The outfit is by Pertegaz and was designed by Jorge Vázquez. It is also a familiar piece from the queen’s wardrobe. She first wore it at the Princess of Girona Awards on November 4, 2019, and brought it back for a reception connected with NATO’s Parliamentary Assembly in November 2022.
For Helsinki, she completed the look with black Magrit slingback pumps and a matching clutch. Large hoop earrings added a touch of sparkle near her face, and she chose rings designed by Coreterno and Karen Hallam.
Her beauty look softened the structured tailoring. In the photographs, her brown hair falls in loose waves, with an off-center part and one side tucked behind her ear to reveal an earring. Defined lashes and softly shaded eyes give the makeup an evening finish, complemented by rosy cheeks and a glossy pink-toned lip.
The reception took place at the NH Collection Helsinki Grand Hansa, where the royal couple met Spaniards living in Finland. Their first state visit to the country continues with engagements hosted by President Alexander Stubb and his wife, Suzanne Innes-Stubb.
By keeping the palette entirely black, Letizia allowed the sleeves to become the focal point. The feathers supplied movement and a sense of occasion, showing how a distinctive detail can transform even the most familiar evening uniform.
