Queen Maxima attended a gathering to mark the fortieth anniversary of the Netherlands Brain Bank (NHB).

This has been a week of unforgettable royal style moments. Like the majestic new ballgown Kate Middleton wore to her dinner with Donald and Melania Trump at Windsor Castle, which was a standout, on a night when tiaras sparkled in all their glory.

Now it is Queen Máxima of the Netherlands who is commanding attention in Amsterdam with a daring fashion statement.

Máxima, the Innovator

At the same time, Melania Trump was bidding farewell to the U.K. with a countryside engagement alongside Kate Middleton (who looked spectacular and very chic in her first fall outfit of the season), Queen Máxima was in Amsterdam attending an event marking the 40th anniversary of the Netherlands Brain Bank (NHB).

The institution collects brain tissue from deceased donors and makes it available to scientists around the world.

Earlier this week, we saw Máxima in full gala mode for Prinsjesdag (Prince’s Day). This time, she staged an intriguing visual play with her outfit, combining very different style codes in one look.

From one angle, Máxima appeared traditionally regal, thanks to a wide-brimmed raffia hat by Fabienne Delvigne that gave her a classic, queenly air. But then she flipped the script with a strikingly modern choice: a green dress by Natan with a crew neckline, short sleeves, and a bold skirt of long, flowing fringe that showed off her legs.

This fringe detail, a major trend, which we have seen in runaways and streetwear during NYFW. To balance the flirty, party-ready vibe, the design featured a second skirt underneath, keeping the overall look appropriate for the occasion.

Accessories with Contrast

For accessories, Máxima contrasted the playful dress with an elegant stone-gray clutch and matching pumps by Gianvito Rossi.

She also brought back a pair of peridot-studded hoop earrings by Bodes & Bode, a jewel she has owned since 2011 and worn many times over the years. The last time she wore them was on May 5, 2025.
