Princess Catharina-Amalia of the Netherlands will be joining her mom in the United States this month. The Princess of Orange is set to accompany Queen Maxima on her visit to Washington, D.C. and New York City.

Queen Maxima, who is the United Nations Secretary-General's Special Advocate for Financial Security, will be in the nation's capital on Sept. 22, where she will meet with the board of directors of the InterAmerican Development Bank to discuss opportunities and challenges for promoting financial health in Latin America and the Caribbean. Her Majesty will also hold discussions with the heads of the International Finance Corporation and, as Honorary Chair of the G20 Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion (GPFI), she will have a follow-up discussion with the United States G20 Sherpa on financial health.

The next day, the royal mother-daughter duo will be in New York City. Maxima is scheduled on Sept. 23 to attend the opening of the 80th UN General Assembly. Then on Sept. 24, the Queen will co-host a roundtable discussion with software and IT company Globant.

On the last day of their visit, Maxima will present her first annual report as UNSGSA for financial health to Secretary-General António Guterres. She will also co-host a roundtable discussion with executives from companies, financial institutions and policymakers on the role of employers in the financial health of employees and will additionally discuss the formation of an informal "Group of Friends for Financial Health" with ministers and ambassadors.

According to the Dutch Royal House, the 21-year-old Princess of Orange will be present throughout Her Majesty's trip to monitor her mom's UN work. Princess Catharina-Amalia, who is the eldest of Queen Maxima and King Willem-Alexander's children, is first in line to the Dutch throne.

The Princess celebrated her graduation from the University of Amsterdam's Politics, Psychology, Law and Economics (PPLE) program this past July. It was previously announced that in the 2025–2026 academic year, the Princess of Orange would begin a bachelor’s program in Dutch law at the University of Amsterdam and would also be participating in the two-year part-time military work and study program at Defensity College.

Princess Catharina-Amalia has said in the past that she hopes to one day “become a good queen." During a 2021 press conference, Amalia said, “There is no school for becoming a queen, not like there is for a lawyer, teacher, baker or you name it.”

She added, “I think that means I have to look very much into the past, but at the same time also have to move with the times.”
