It was in June 2024 when Charles Spencer, brother of the late Diana, Princess of Wales, announced his third divorce. He shared the news with deep sadness, stating he was going through a difficult moment in his personal life as he divorced his now ex-wife, whom he had married in June 2011.
Adding to the difficult time, Countess Spencer had recently endured the loss of her father, to whom she was very close. Now, a little over a year later, Karen Spencer has announced she has a new home and has shared some of its most beautiful corners.
She shared her excitement on social media, sharing a glimpse at the new milestone and revealing that she had already signed the paperwork. During her marriage to Diana’s brother, she lived with him at his historic family estate in Althorp, Northamptonshire. Now her life has taken a different path. Her new home, like the one she shared with Charles Spencer, also features a spacious garden where she can enjoy nature and time outdoors, surrounded by greenery and animals.
"It’s a beautiful and peaceful home in gorgeous Northamptonshire, surrounded by nature, and a wonderful community of friends," she shared.
"Although we don’t move in till October, on June 21st, the seller kindly let me host my summer solstice party there. So special to kick off the first of many gatherings with loved ones."
She also shared details about the event. "The lovely Amaryllis @amaryllis_fraser led a serene meditation, and the very talented Rose Wild @roseinthewildwellness spoiled us with a sound bath."
In the photos shared by the former wife of Diana’s brother, the grounds of the new property are visible, lush and well cared for. One highlight is the garden terrace area, where she hosted the celebration. As she explained, the space turned into a sleeping area during the event, with every detail thoughtfully arranged. Tents were set up, and a bonfire was lit. "I can’t wait to share more moments soon!” she concluded.
An ongoing legal battle:
At first, it seemed Spencer was closing the chapter on his third marriage and starting fresh with Professor Catrine Jarman, a Norwegian archaeologist specializing in Viking history. But in October 2024, The Telegraph revealed that Spencer’s new girlfriend had initiated a £2 million legal battle (more than €2.3 million) against his third wife.
Catrine Jarman, who shares Spencer’s passion for archaeology and history, accused Karen Spencer of leaking private medical information, which, according to Jarman, forced her to publicly reveal that she has multiple sclerosis (MS).
“Having MS was something so private I hadn’t even told Charles,” the archaeologist told Daily Mail, adding that she "felt utterly sick" when she found out Countess Spencer "had been telling people about it behind my back."
"I understand that she was hurting, but why would you share private medical information like that, without consent, especially when you knew it was private and secret. It has been the most stressful time, and with MS, you are told that it is most important to avoid stress," she added, stating that this was not information she had shared within her professional circles either.
Charles Spencer and Karen Gordon's love story:
Charles Spencer’s romance with Canadian philanthropist Karen Gordon, founder of the charity Whole Child, began in 2010 after a blind date in a Los Angeles restaurant.
One year later, on June 20, 2011, the couple married in an intimate ceremony at Althorp House, the grand Spencer family estate in Northamptonshire. In 2012, they welcomed their only daughter together: Lady Charlotte Diana Spencer.
Spencer has six other children. Lady Kitty, Lady Eliza, Lady Amelia, and Louis, Viscount Althorp, all from his first marriage to Victoria Lockwood; and Edmund and Lara, from his second marriage to Caroline Hutton.
Karen, meanwhile, has two daughters, Emma and Kate, from her previous relationship with Hollywood producer Mark Gordon.
