Queen Letizia and King Felipe of Spain's daughters had a reunion in Gijón. Princess Leonor arrived in the city aboard the Juan Sebastián de Elcano training ship on July 3. While in Gijón, the Princess of Asturias visited the Jovellanos Maritime Rescue Center and reunited with her younger sister, Infanta Sofia, at La Casona de Jovellanos.
The restaurant shared pictures from the royal siblings' visit on Instagram. Alongside one image, La Casona de Jovellanos wrote (translated to English): "✨ A visit for history ✨ Still with a heart full of emotion, we want to thank Her Royal Highness the Princess of Asturias, Ms. Leonor, and the Infanta Ms. Sofia for the immense honor of their visit to La Casona de Jovellanos, in the heart of Gijón. It was a privilege to host them along with their Navy colleagues and share with them a little bit of our home, our history... and of course, from our kitchen 🍽️ 💙 Thank you for choosing us. Thank you for this unforgettable moment. 📸 In the photo, our owner poses proudly alongside two women who represent the present and future of our land."
Another photo was captioned (translated to English): "📸 And here, one of the most special moments that we will treasure with infinite affection 💫Our dear Luisa of La Casona de Jovellanos sharing a snapshot with the Princess of Asturias, Ms. Leonor, and the Infanta Ms. Sofia. An image that speaks of respect, closeness and emotion.Thank you for your sympathy, for your kindness.. and for letting us be part of such a valuable memory 🙏 💙Gijon, his people and our house will not forget this day. 😉."
Leonor, who is in her second year of military training, set sail aboard the ship this past January. The 19-year-old Princess missed her sister's graduation from UWC Atlantic in May. While she didn't join her parents at the ceremony in Wales, Leonor recorded a video for Sofia. According to Casa de S.M. el Rey, the Princess of Asturias wanted to be present in some way through a compilation video that ended with a personal message.
"Hi Sofia, I can't be there in Wales today to be with you on your graduation day, but I wanted to take this opportunity to congratulate you," Leonor said in her video message, translated to English. "I'm so proud of you, and we'll see you back home soon to celebrate. Enjoy it and lots of kisses!"
The Princess of Asturias also congratulated Sofia via video call after the graduation ceremony on May 24. While Sofia, 18, followed in her older sister's footsteps by attending UWC Atlantic—which Leonor graduated from in 2023—it's been reported that she won't undergo military training like Leonor. HOLA! Spain previously reported that Sofia considered joining the army and taking a helicopter pilot course, but has ultimately decided to pursue a university degree.
