Together again! For the first time since leaving Spain on board the Juan Sebastián de Elcano training ship, Princess Leonor reunited with her mom, Queen Letizia. The mother-daughter reunion took place on Saturday, May 3, in Panama City, where the ship docked at the Amador Cruise Terminal.
After disembarking the vessel, Leonor was filmed making her way toward her mom. Her Majesty, dressed in a white tee and white jeans, showered her firstborn with warm hugs. Ahead of the pair's reunion, HOLA! Spain reported that Letizia would be making an unofficial trip to Panama with family and close friends of the other midshipmen who have been sailing with the Princess.
On Saturday evening, Letizia joined her daughter on board the Juan Sebastián de Elcano training ship for a reception. The Spanish Queen looked radiant in a red Mango jumpsuit featuring a wrap collar for the occasion.
Leonor and Letizia's reunion came ahead of Mother's Day, which was celebrated on Sunday, May 4, in Spain. According to El Mundo, the royal mom of two and her 19-year-old daughter were going to celebrate the holiday together. While Letizia was with Leonor, her younger daughter, Infanta Sofia, was across the pond in the UK. Sofia, 18, is currently studying in Wales at UWC Atlantic, which she is set to graduate from later this month.
Letizia and King Felipe bid an emotional farewell to their eldest child, Leonor, back in January. The Princess of Asturias is currently in her second year of military training. Her naval training began last August at the Naval Military Academy of Marín and continued this year on board the Juan Sebastián de Elcano training ship, which is described as "an essential part of the curriculum for future Navy officers and provides valuable practical experience in navigation, astronomy, meteorology, and other nautical disciplines. It also fosters teamwork, discipline, and a spirit of service."
After passing the Panama Canal, Leonor will journey to Cartagena de Indias and Santa Marta (Colombia), Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic) followed by New York, before returning to Spain, according to HOLA! Spain. Following her naval training, the future Queen will finish her three-year military training “in the Air and Space Army, joining the San Javier General Air Academy for the 2025-2026 academic year as Ensign Student.”
As for her sister Sofia, it's been reported that she won't be undergoing military training like Leonor. Sources close to the family have previously told HOLA! Spain that the idea is for Sofia to go to a university abroad, probably in the U.S. The King and Queen's second child has reportedly applied to several schools, one of which is believed to be in Washington.
