Mariana Treviño has a way of stealing a scene without trying too hard. Audiences who remember her as the fiercely ambitious Isabel Iglesias in Netflix’s Club de Cuervos know exactly what that looks like. So do those who watched her go toe-to-toe with Tom Hanks in A Man Called Otto, playing the outspoken neighbor who refuses to leave his grumpy character alone. Now, the Monterrey-born actress has found another character worth getting attached to, this time in Apple TV’s Stick.

In the comedy, which premiered in 2025, Owen Wilson plays a former professional golfer who sees potential in a troubled teenager named Santi. Treviño plays his mother, Elena, a Mexican single mom who has her reservations about letting a stranger get involved in her son’s life. But when she agrees to join them on an RV road trip, things get more complicated than she expected, especially as she begins to form an unexpected connection with the people traveling alongside them.

It’s Treviño’s first major television role performed almost entirely in English, and one that gives her plenty to work with. Elena can be stubborn and suspicious, especially when it comes to protecting her son, Santi, played by Peter Dager. She’s also unexpectedly funny, and her growing affection for Mitts, played by Marc Maron, reveals a romantic side she hasn’t had much opportunity to explore.

The relationship between Elena and Santi is especially important to the story. Treviño and Dager found their rhythm almost immediately, something she recalled during a recent conversation with ¡HOLA!. "I think it was from the first scene that we did in the first season," she said of their connection.

Even with her growing success in Hollywood, Treviño still makes time for the Mexican theater she loves. In 2026, she returned to one of her favorite roles, Lupita, in ‘Mentiras: All Stars’, sharing the stage with Belinda and Danna. The popular musical brought her back to familiar territory and reminded audiences of the comedic talent that helped make her a star in Mexico long before American viewers discovered her.

November 4 brings another big moment with the premiere of Stick’s second season. Treviño reunites with Wilson, Dager and Maron, while Better Call Saul star Rhea Seehorn joins the cast. The show’s return gives her another opportunity to reach viewers who may be discovering her work for the first time.

There’s something refreshing about seeing Treviño enjoy this stage of her career. She’s already had the kind of success in Mexico that many actors spend decades pursuing, yet there’s still plenty of curiosity in the roles she chooses. Hollywood may be getting to know her better, but the personality, humor and unmistakable presence that make her so appealing have been there all along.
