Behind some of the most successful Prime Video content shows and documentaries lies the eyes of Javiera Balmaceda Pascal; a Chilean executive producer who is also the chief of content of Prime Video Latin America, Canada, and Australia.

Balmaceda has over 15 years of experience within the entertainment industry, and has been a key figure in propulsing extraordinary stories, linking them with the right directors, producers, and screenwriters. She joined Prime Video in 2017, but has a long history of experience working with brands like HBO, DLA, Cartoon Network, Comedy Central, MySpaceTV, and more.

Aside from all of her great unsung work, Balmaceda earned the critical recognition she deserved for the film “Argentina, 1985,” which was nominated for an Oscar for Best International Film. The movie is inspired on the true story of Julio Strassera and Luis Moreno Ocampo, two lawyers that put some of the chief military officers involved with Argentina’s latest dictatorship to trial. It’s a production that’s incredibly personal to Balmacada, who emigrated from their native Chile due to the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet.

Balmaceda graduated from Wesleyan University, where she studied arts and economy. A fun bit of trivia is the fact that she’s related to Pedro Pascal, being her eldest sister. Over the week of this year’s Oscars, Balmaceda and Pascal attended the event together, and were happy to promote each other’s work.
