For Gabriela Trujillo, beauty runs in the family. Born in Alamar, Cuba and raised in Miami, Gabriela grew up with a mother that also loved beauty, studying to become an aesthetician and later establishing her own beauty salon. Gaby worked as a receptionist there, learning all about beauty and makeup, skills that she expanded on when she began her official career in the beauty industry.

It was there where she saw many brands and businesses owned by women of color, inspiring her to set up her own business. She wanted to create a brand that represented and celebrated her culture, founding Alamar Cosmetics, named after her birthplace. The company debuted in 2018, launching five collections in its first year. Now, Alamar Cosmetics has over 225,000 followers on Instagram and has become a space for the Latin community, one where people are joined by their love of beauty and heritage.
Alamar Cosmetics currently has over 40 different types of products for sale, making over 4.5 million dollars overall.
Alamar Cosmetics began with a collection of eye shadow. Nowadays, the brand has released over 40 products and has made over 4.5 million dollars in sales. The company’s biggest opportunity occurred when Disney knocked on their door, asking them to collaborate on a makeup line inspired by “Encanto.” This marked the first time that Disney collaborated with an independent and Latina owned company to create a product that was timed with the release of the film itself.
The experiment worked wonders, becoming one of Gaby’s biggest and greatest successes. It’s also proof that better and bigger things are coming for the talented beauty expert.
