New York Times Bestselling Author, Silvia Moreno-Garcia’s is one of the most talented Latinas writers of our times. She is breaking barriers with her gothic literature.

Moreno-Garcia’s novels have received numerous critical acclaim, but her journey still continues. She is the editor of several anthologies and is the publisher of the Innsmouth Free Press. This year, Moreno-Garcia was the first writer of Latin origin to win the Locus Award for horror novels with ‘Mexcian Ghotic.’ According to The Guardian, ‘Mexican Gothic,’ which is set in glamorous 1950s Mexico, is “Lovecraft meets the Brontës in Latin America, and after a slow-burn start Mexican Gothic gets seriously weird.”

Born in Mexico, her great-grandmother, who was from Hidalgo and lived through the Mexican Revolution, would tell her stories about witches as a child. The line between folklore and reality was not apparent as a child or even now as an adult. She remarked in a 2016 NPR interview that, “It‘s probably a lot better to imagine that you can deal with vampires and witches, because at least those, there’s some ways to combat them. When you‘re talking about humans, there are no certain remedies for dealing with a band of roving soldiers.”

Silvia was the co-editor of the horror magazine ‘The Dark’ from 2017-2020. She currently serves as a columnist for ‘The Washington Post.’ Her latest work ‘Velvet was the Night’ is “Romantic, eccentric and violent, this is a perfect example of neo-noir,” according to the Sunday Times Crime Club.
