Rosalía turns 33: Saying goodbye to 'Motomami' and embracing a new era of sophistication

The shift didn’t happen overnight. It’s been gradual, intentional, and, above all, authentic.

On her 33rd birthday, Rosalía seems to be turning the page on a chapter that defined an era. 'Motomami' wasn't just an album, it was a visual statement, a hyper-stylized persona that took over the red carpet, the stage, and the streets. Leather, sky-high platforms, biker jackets, and intentionally provocative looks turned her into a walking manifesto.

But now, the Catalan singer is proving that style, like music, doesn’t have to stick to just one genre. This isn’t a dramatic rebrand or a PR move. It’s a natural evolution. Rosalía has spent the last few years pushing creative boundaries, and her wardrobe is now catching up to a new moment. She’s not erasing the Motomami years. What we’re seeing is less about rebellion and more about refinement.

Rosalia's 'Motomami' era:

Back in 2022, Rosalía wasn’t just playing with fashion, she was living in a fully formed alter ego. Motomami was attitude-heavy and unapologetically in-your-face. Think oversized sunglasses, biker helmets, sheer fabrics, leather on leather, and platform boots that defied gravity. It was bold, it was loud, and it was everywhere.

She walked the streets like they were her runway, often dressed like a mix between a street racer and a pop diva. Her style played with extremes. Feminine versus aggressive, polished versus chaotic. Even when it didn’t make sense, it made a statement, and that was the point.

There were unforgettable looks, like pairing a white shirt with track pants and see-through platform sandals, or matching a vintage silk skirt with green furry shoes. She blurred the lines between high fashion and streetwear, often echoing the boldness of other icons. Motomami was never about fitting in.

So what changed?

The shift didn’t happen overnight. It’s been gradual, intentional, and, above all, authentic. She still wears her signature sunglasses, but now they’re paired with trench coats, minimalist tailoring, and longer hemlines. Her looks feel more classic, more grown-up, but never boring.

She’s swapped sheer bodysuits for full-length skirts, corsets for knit cardigans, and biker boots for delicate ballet flats, including metallic versions. Black remains her go-to, but white is appearing more and more, often interpreted as symbolic.

After a very public engagement that didn’t end in marriage, some have read her new white wardrobe as a quiet reclaiming of personal reset.

When she wears black now, it’s not for shock value but for elegance. And yet, when the moment calls for it, she knows how to tap into her Motomami archive. A corset here, a knee-high boot there. The difference is that now, it’s part of a larger style language.

There’s also a practical side to all this. As she takes on more roles as a muse and ambassador for luxury fashion houses, the emphasis is on versatility and sophistication rather than controversy.

Turning 33 hasn’t erased the fire that made Motomami so unforgettable. It’s just placed it in context. Rosalía isn’t interested in sticking to one look, one image, one idea. She’s building a style library where leather, lace, tulle, and tweed all have a place, depending on the story she wants to tell.
