At Sunday’s FIFA Club World Cup final in New Jersey, the soccer world might have had its eyes on Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain, but fashion watchers were focused on something else entirely, Melania Trump’s sunglasses.
Arriving alongside President Donald Trump at MetLife Stadium, the First Lady drew attention with her distinctly curated look, stepping out in a bold pair of white Christian Dior shades that shielded much of her face.
The DiorNuit S1I sunglasses, adorned with thick, cat-eyed frames and a gold logo on wide temples, were far from a mere accessory. Priced at $2,000, they demanded attention intentionally or not.
She wore the oversized sunglasses with a clean, monochrome look: a fitted white tee, a slit white pencil skirt, and a sharp Michael Kors blazer. She carried a Hermès Kelly bag and finished the outfit with pointed white Manolo Blahnik stilettos. A navy blazer, casually draped over her shoulders, pulled everything together. The silhouette was polished, intentional, and just distant enough.
The sunglasses, introduced by Dior back in Spring 2023, may not be part of Jonathan Anderson’s current vision for the brand, but they remain a striking emblem of Melania’s signature aesthetic.
This isn’t the first time Melania’s eyewear has stirred public interest, or conspiracy theories, as she prefers face-obscuring sunglasses in both formal and casual settings.
Online talk about “Fake Melania” body double rumors dates back to 2017. But at MetLife Stadium, there was no doubt who was behind the frames.
The Trumps, along with FIFA President Gianni Infantino and Leena Al Ashqar, watched the match from the presidential box.
Interestingly, she wasn’t alone in the white-sunglass trend this week. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman was spotted in a similar pair of blocky, oversized frames by Vuarnet at the annual Sun Valley tech summit.
One year has passed since the failed assassination attempt on President Trump, and the Club World Cup final marked a significant anniversary. “It remains my firm conviction that God alone saved me that day for a righteous purpose,” he said in a statement after the match.
Just days earlier, Melania had taken a more subdued approach during a Texas visit. There, she wore a khaki anorak jacket, army-green pants, black Converse, and another pair of large dark sunglasses.
In a crowd full of stars, Chelsea takes the trophy
Chelsea emerged victorious, securing a 2–1 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. The match was intense from the outset, as Chelsea capitalized on crucial opportunities and maintained their composure under pressure. Enzo Fernández sealed it with the winner, delivering the club’s first Club World Cup title since 2021. Blue confetti poured from the sky as fans roared in celebration.
