Finely woven yarn, double or triple stitches, and eternal knots are not just essential materials for designers, they are also their source of inspiration for the new season.

Knit fabrics are reclaiming their spot among fashion trends and they’re coming back with an extra dose of color, texture, and style, taking a step away from the versions in powder colors with the granny feel that are severely demodé.

This year, the graphic details on the garments and their volume will make colder days more enjoyable.

Wool, cashmere, cotton, and even silk fibers are intertwined in intricate patterns that create impeccable sweaters, cardigans, and short coats that are just as feminine as they are modern. You only have to take a look at the pieces by designer Jean Paul Gaultier.

Unexpected mixtures

There were many knit dresses and sweaters at the Altuzarra show that captured the audience’s attention. Those that stood out the most, without a doubt, were those that combined stitching with varied thickness and tone, making them even more glamorous.

Sophisticated warmth

Any knit piece that has a loose silhouette and the typical argyle print—which originated in menswear—will be in style, especially those created by British designer Molly Goddard, which are preferred both by millennials and socialites.

Airy femininity

One of the fashion companies that made knitwear their flagship fabric is Missoni. This fall, their line includes suits made with classic zigzag and diagonal stitches, matching with sweaters, belts, and even over-the-knee stockings.

The most original

Chain stitching could also be seen in the more edgy designs, which bring together hundreds of multicolored yarns in suits that can be worn during the day, afternoon, and night. The best example? The knitted dresses by Stella McCartney.

Basics with cozy texture

Prepare for the change of seasons with the Cable-knit Wool-blend Sweater by H&M ($59.99), one of the must-haves to put together preppy-style looks. Pair it with jeans, short skirts, or paper bag shorts and you’ll have an outfit that’s a ten out of ten.

Ribbed fabrics

Another style that is taking hold in fashion trends is the fusion of ribbing and geometric patterns. Show off your figure in the Striped ribbed-knit turtleneck dress by MCQ Alexander McQueen. Its slim-fit cut requires more simple accessories (Net-a-Porter $267).

Casual and perfect

Knitwear is not limited to just crochet scarves. The straight-across neckline tops, which allow delicate shapes to be seen that can’t be made with sewing, are also the perfect addition for your closet, like the Textured Off-The-Shoulder Top by Zara ($39.90).

XL Volume

There’s nothing like a coat that makes for a statement piece and helps you to stand out. Just like the Betty Duster by Tularosa (Revolve, $168). Since it is a hybrid between more formal Japanese kimonos and American cardigans, you can reinvent your wardrobe this fall.

Remember, knitwear has gone back to being cool again… and it’s time to wear it!
