Tessa Thompson has a new TV show out. The actress and producer is one of the hardest-working people in Hollywood today, and a recurring face in films exploring all sorts of genres. "His & Hers" is her latest project, a Netflix adaptation she produced that follows a reclusive news anchor and a detective immersed in a murder investigation.
What's the plot?
Developed by William Oldroyd and based on the Alice Feeney novel of the same name, "His & Hers" is set in Atlanta, following Anna (Thompson), a fading journalist and news anchor who finds an opportunity to revive her career when she learns of a murder in the small town where she grew up. The case reinvigorates her and gives her purpose, reconnecting her with her ex-husband, Detective Jack Harper (Jon Bernthal), who's leading the murder investigation.
"Tessa is not only an actor of great sensitivity and intelligence but also a very savvy businesswoman and loyal ally," said Oldroyd to Netflix. "She has such great taste and became a vital collaborator from the very start until the bitter end. I’m so grateful to her for the experience, insight, and support she shared."
Feeney also shared her involvement with the project, and what she felt when she toured the set and saw the world she created brought to life. “Seeing characters who had lived inside my head for so long come to life, was unlike anything I had experienced before. Jon Bernthal was one of the first people I met on set. He was dressed as Jack Harper, so all I saw was Jack walking and talking and coming towards me."
Who stars in the project?
Aside from Thompson and Bernthal, both powerhouses in their own right, known for their large film work, involvement in the Marvel universe, and more, the cast is rounded out by Pablo Schreiber, Crystal Fox, Sunita Mani, Rebecca Rittenhouse, and Marin Ireland.
When describing her character, Thompson teased what viewers can expect. "Anna Andrews is a fiercely ambitious, dedicated, sharp, and sometimes biting newscaster who has lost her way but finds it again through her work," she said. "She returns home after a murder in her hometown, which allows her to investigate and reunite with people from her past."
When is it out?
"His & Hers" premiered on Netflix this weekend. The series is made up of six episodes that are now streaming.
