Rosalía is in the middle of one of the busiest seasons of her career. As she prepares for the release of her highly anticipated fourth album, 'Lux,' dropping this Friday, November 7, she’s also navigating the whirlwind of filming the third season of HBO’s 'Euphoria.'
The two worlds collided for the singer in ways that were exhilarating, challenging, and, ultimately, deeply rewarding, as she revealed to Billboard in a recent interview.
“It was very challenging to do both. I was recording the album and producing and checking mixes, everything, while I was shooting Euphoria,” Rosalía said. “I had to divide my mind between both, and it was the first time, also, that I was doing something like this — preparing a character, studying lines."
She continued, "These are new things for me. It’s very different from making an album and making music. So that was a real challenge.” Despite her superstar status, Rosalía wasn’t handed the role on a silver platter. She went through the audition process like anyone else.
“Girl, of course, claro!” she told the publication. But once she secured the part, she found an unexpected mentor in her co-star Alexa Demie. “She’s been a very close friend of mine, and she’s been very supportive. The way she approaches it is so effortless, and that’s something very beautiful to see and very inspiring.”
While filming, Rosalía admits she was particularly careful not to overwhelm Zendaya. “When we were filming, I admire her so much, I didn’t want to distract her at all. So I wouldn’t talk to her too much. But when she would be off set, then she would explain that she knew about my music, and that made me very happy. It meant a lot, because I really like what she does. She can do it all.”
When asked who has the best taste in music among the cast, she laughed. “Definitely me,” she said, before conceding, “Zendaya. Because Zendaya recommended 'Motomami' to the director.”
The singer’s admiration for her peers extends beyond music. With 'Euphoria' now in her resume, Rosalía says she dreams of collaborating with filmmakers like Quentin Tarantino or Sofia Coppola.
Fans waiting for Euphoria’s third season, set to air in 2026, have a lot to look forward to. Meanwhile, 'Lux' offers a glimpse into a new era. This time, Rosalía takes a bold step into orchestral and operatic territory, recording with the London Symphony Orchestra and singing in 13 languages, including Spanish, Catalan, English, Latin, Sicilian, Ukrainian, Arabic, and German.
