The wait is finally over for fashion lovers and film buffs who've been quoting "Gird your loins!" for nearly two decades. "The Devil Wears Prada 2" is officially in the works, and the casting news is as sharp as Miranda Priestly's stare.

Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci are all returning for the much-anticipated sequel, stepping back into their iconic roles. But they're not the only ones strutting into Runway's world. A fresh crop of A-listers and rising stars are joining the high-fashion chaos, and if you're not already excited, you will be by the time you finish reading this.

Let's break down who's entering Miranda's realm, and why this sequel might be the fashion film of the decade.

The Cast Is Giving Designer-Level Drama

Stepping into the glossy world of designer handbags and soul-crushing deadlines are some seriously stacked names, including Lucy Liu, Pauline Chalamet, Justin Theroux, BJ Novak, Conrad Ricamora, Helen J. Shen, Caleb Hearon, and Simone Ashley sealed her spot in the film.  Kenneth Branagh joins as Miranda's husband, and Tracie Thoms returns as Andy's BFF, Lily.

Where Are They Now?

Plot details are still being kept under tighter wraps than a couture gown before Fashion Week, but here's what we do know. The sequel centers on Miranda Priestly as she faces the rapid collapse of traditional print media. But if you thought she was going down without a perfectly manicured fight, think again.

Emily Charlton (Emily Blunt) is now a high-powered executive at a luxury advertising firm, and she remembers everything. This sets the stage for what's likely to be a deliciously high-stakes power play between former allies.

As for Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway), she may not be returning to Runway, but her story is far from over. In a past interview, Hathaway imagined her character now writing for a chic French magazine and speaking fluent French. She's fab, maybe has a kid or two, and—most importantly—is not dating Nate. Yes, Nate (played by Adrian Grenier) will not be returning. That grilled cheese moment and overpriced strawberries are now ancient history.

Behind the Seams: A Fashion Film Legacy

The original "Devil Wears Prada" became a movement. But did you know the film was greenlit before the book even hit shelves? All it took was 100 pages and an outline for Fox to say "yes" to Miranda Priestly and her icy persona.

Screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna adapted the original script, which took a razor-sharp look at the sacrifices women make to climb the masthead. Though it was inspired by Lauren Weisberger's real-life stint at Vogue, the fashion world wasn't too keen to open its sample closets at first.

Even Anna Wintour reportedly made it hard for the production to land real locations, and iconic spots like The Met and Bryant Park were off-limits. But thanks to production designer Jess Gonchor (who may or may not have snuck into Vogue HQ), they recreated Wintour's office so perfectly that she allegedly redecorated after the film dropped.

Costumes, Casting, and the One That Got Away

The original film's wardrobe was a game-changer, thanks to Patricia Field, who pulled together more than 150 designer looks. And yes, they borrowed it all. Streep once joked, "We had to be very careful not to eat spaghetti at lunch."

Interestingly, not everyone jumped at the chance to join fashion history. Rachel McAdams turned down Andy's role three timesand Kate Hudson admitted she regrets passing on it. Also, John Leguizamo said no to the role of Nigel, which later became one of Stanley Tucci's most iconic performances. A missed opportunity for Latino representation, but Tucci made Nigel unforgettable, even improvising the classic line: "Gird your loins!"

So, When Can You Watch?

Filming officially began in late June 2025, so it won't be long before we get a sneak peek. While a release date hasn't been locked in yet, with this level of buzz and a fanbase starving for a sequel, expect a significant media moment when it drops.

In the meantime, consider this your permission slip to rewatch the original, practice your best Miranda glare, and treat yourself to a new pair of Chanel boots.
