María Gabriela de Faría is embarking on the biggest journey of her career. The Venezuelan actress is starring in "Superman," one of the year's most anticipated films. A new trailer was released today, sharing a bit of her background and the role she plays in the city of Metropolis.
De Faría is playing the Engineer, one of Superman's (David Corenswet) biggest foes, as demonstrated in the movie's new trailer. De Faría is seen attacking Superman in different instances, including fighting his adorable dog Krypto and going head-to-head with the hero himself in an empty baseball field.
Her role appears to be aligned with Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult), with the two sneaking inside Superman's Fortress of Solitude and battling some of the robots that protect it.
De Faría is seen wearing all black in the trailer and appears to be able to mold her hands into different shapes and weapons. Director James Gunn celebrated De Faría's birthday a couple of weeks ago, describing her performance as the Engineer as "sinister perfection."

More details about Superman
"Superman" premieres this July 11th in theaters. The film represents the new stage of the DC Universe, introducing a new Superman to the world and a blank slate of characters and superhero stories.
While many details have been kept under wraps, the film appears to be a hopeful and traditional take on Superman's story, focusing on his romance with Lois Lane and his rivalry with Lex Luthor. The film also introduces characters from the Justice League, including Hawkgirl, played by Isabela Merced, and Krypto, Superman's dog, who has become the star of many of the film's teasers, trailers, and posters.
Gunn revealed that while there are a lot of moving parts to the film, the main focus is the relationship between Clark and Lois.
"We have robots and monster babies and giant kaiju and all of that stuff. But that is also grounded around these incredibly real relationships with a couple that has started dating a few months ago, and now they're really learning the ins and outs of each other," he said to Entertainment Weekly.
