This year's festival has a little bit of everything

The 2025 edition of the Cannes Film Festival is underway. This year, you can expect a little bit of everything to come out of this batch of movies: directorial debuts from seasoned actors, the premiere of one of Hollywood's largest and most anticipated blockbusters, screen debuts from exciting young talent, and seasoned Cannes directors who are returning to the big screen. 

Here are the 10 movies premiering at Cannes that we can't wait to see this year:

Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning

While the film is out of the Cannes competition, the "Mission: Impossible" franchise is premiering the end of one of its most significant chapters at the festival. The franchise, which is Tom Cruise's darling, is an important part of American cinema and history, and has many fans of all ages waiting excitedly to see what Cruise cooks up next. 

The Chronology of Water

"The Chronology of Water" marks Kristen Stewart's directorial debut. Based on Lidia Yuknavitch's memoir of the same name, the film stars Imogen Poots in the lead role as she escapes an abusive home thanks to a swimming scholarship, following her through the ups and downs of her life. 

Honey Don't!

HONEY DON'T - Official Trailer [HD] - Only in Theaters August 22

Starring Margaret Qualley, Chris Evans, and Aubrey Plaza, "Honey Don't!" follows a private investigator looking into a series of murders connected to a church pastor.

Eddington

Ari Aster's new movie is "Eddington." Like his previous film, it stars Joaquin Phoenix playing opposite Pedro Pascal in a Western set during the 2020 COVID pandemic, pitting a sheriff and a mayor against each other as they disagree over lockdown and tear their whole town apart. 

Die My Love

Starring Jennifer Lawrence, Robert Pattinson, and Lakeith Stanfield, the film follows a woman, her husband, and his lover, as she's "driven to insanity by her marriage and childbirth." 

The Phoenician Scheme

Wes Anderson's new film serves up some more of Anderson's colorful and offbeat antics alongside a roster of beloved actors. This time around, these include Benicio del Toro, Riz Ahmed, Tom Hanks, Jeffrey Wright, Scarlett Johansson, and Kate Winslet's daughter Mia Threapleton. 

Nouvelle Vague

Richard Linklater is back in Cannes with a new film, this time, tributing the French New Wave of cinema. 

Splitsville

Adria Arjona and Dakota Johnson star in the film, following Arjona's character as she seeks to divorce her husband, who, in hopes of saving his marriage, turns to his friends for advice. The solution? An open marriage. 

The History of Sound

Two of the biggest stars in Hollywood, Paul Mescal and Josh O'Connor, star in a romance trailing two men seeking to record the lives of people in New England during World War I.

Spike Lee and Denzel Washington are adding one more collaboration to their prolific history. This time around, Washington plays a music mogul in New York faced with an important decision.
