Colombian superstar Karol G arrived with a quiet confidence that spoke volumes, proof that every late night, every doubt, and every leap of faith has led her here. You could feel her power in the air, with her presence exuding the energy of someone who has finally seen her lifelong vision materialize. This wasn’t just any screening; it was a celebration of every step Karol G took to become the artist she is today.

We interviewed Karol G and director Cristina Costantini to discuss why this Colombian icon inspires Latinos and dreamers everywhere, and to explore how every struggle, sacrifice, and triumph along the way makes the destination truly worthwhile.

Karol G explained that Tomorrow Was Beautiful isn’t simply a highlight reel of her success. It’s an honest portrait of every late-night rehearsal and every setback that paved her path to the stage. She hopes viewers will see not just the glamour, but also the grit and determination behind each victory. She wants them to feel empowered to embrace the hard work and the struggles that come when you're set on achieving your dreams
When asked whether she ever imagined standing on a stage to present a Netflix documentary about her own life, Karol G didn’t hesitate: “Yes, to be honest.” She shared the secret behind her certainty: “I believe that having a vision and family is the most important thing you can have,” she said. She described a book she’d read years ago that taught her manifesting isn’t just about declaring your desires. “Manifesting isn’t saying, ‘I want to do this’; no, manifesting is working, but also working while thinking it’s possible to achieve.”

I want everyone watching to feel at home with the everyday grind behind their own dreams and careers.”
Karol G shared that manifesting for her starts each morning with gratitude and a firm belief in her goals. “So instead of saying, ‘Thank you God that such and such is going to happen to me,’ or ‘God, please help me so that this happens to me,’ I say, ‘Thank you God that you gave me the opportunity to achieve this in my life, this that is so important to me, I achieved it, it’s happening to me, it’s going to happen, it’s going to happen, I’m working on it, it’s going to happen,’ and that’s what I do every day.”
She credits intentional thinking for keeping her focused, motivated, and grateful as she continues to chase her dreams.

For Cristina Costantini, the director, the process of making the film was about uncovering the truth of an icon. “I wanted to pull back the curtain on the real person behind the superstar.” For two years, she and her small crew trailed the singer with handheld cameras, so unassuming that, before long, Karol had forgotten they were even there.
Costantini shared that in their first meeting, the 34-year-old pop star from Medellín said, “I don't want to just tell the story of the beautiful, glamorous life that a tour is; I want to tell the real story, of what it is to do something this big.”
That vision helped inform the rest of the project. "As a documentary filmmaker, that's a godsend, and you don't hear that very often from subjects," said Costantini. By tracking late-night rehearsals, songwriting marathons, and the hush of anticipation just before Karol steps onstage, the film aims to show both the exhilaration of sold-out shows and the moments when self-doubt nearly wins.

Karol G told us that one of the most unexpected and touching surprises in the film was her mother’s candid presence. “My mom surprised me in the documentary, to be honest.” She explained that while her mother is “incredible” at home and “very outgoing and spontaneous,” she rarely speaks out in public. So when the cameras captured her family in candid moments, “recording them talking and doing things,” Karol was genuinely surprised.
“My mom says things in the documentary that she never said to me directly, but she made me feel them,” she said, noting how those unspoken words filled her with pride.
© Courtesy of Netflix / 2025Reflecting on what it means to have such loving support, Karol described the beautiful complexity of her family’s journey. “I don’t know, it’s a very special moment, it’s not that I just get a little emotional, but she’s incredible,” she said. Karol emphasized that, despite the glitz of her success, “we’re a normal family; a normal family has ups and downs, families that hold on and love each other, that have love and heartbreaks, but at the end of the day, we make it through.” It’s this blend of love, resilience, and authenticity that fuels her drive, and which she hopes will resonate with anyone chasing their own dreams.
“I always say: the bigger the blessing, the greater the effort and sacrifice. As my dad used to say, ‘They save the best for those who are ready,’ so if something big is coming your way, they’re holding it in reserve, preparing you, and the experience and wisdom you gain now will make you ready to receive that blessing tomorrow.”

It felt like reliving her own story and remembering her family’s sacrifices. It’s in those intimate and honest moments that you see the cost and the rewards of chasing a dream. Cristina went on to explain that many of us share this experience with our Latino parents: “They made huge sacrifices for us to be where we are.” Seeing a mother’s pride on screen, she added, is a reminder of how far love can carry us.
"Seeing a woman excel at that level, being who is is and being authentic. We live in a time when a lot of female leaders act like men in order to succed, and Karol really embraces her femininity. She's not scared to be herself, she's not scared to cry, she's not scared to surround herself by other powerful women."
Surprised by love
During the emotional premiere, Karol’s boyfriend, the Colombian singer Feid, quietly wove through the crowd and caught her by surprise with a tender embrace. In that moment, time seemed to still, speaking volumes on their relationship and devotion to each other. It was a powerful testament of love and support for a film that lays bare every drop of sweat, tear, and sacrifice behind Karol's rise to international stardom.

Cristina summed up the evening and the film it celebrated in a single thought: “Karol’s biggest power is her heart.”
After the premiere, Karol took to Instagram to share her feelings about the events surrounding the documentary's release. "What I experienced two days ago was a dream! So many incredible things all in one night… I saw important people I hadn’t seen in years, I was back with my fans who are the most incredible, crazy, passionate, and magical people on the planet, my family and friends were there, and it was the premiere of a documentary about my life that gave me the opportunity, from another perspective, to realize how beautiful and hard-won this process has been. 🥹 I received so much love that I’m still processing it… ♥️”
"Tomorrow Was Beautiful" premieres on Netflix this Friday, May 8. It’s more than a concert film; it’s a love letter to perseverance, family, sacrifice, and the courage to believe in yourself.
