This year has been a notorious one for Lively, following the legal case between herself and Justin Baldoni

Yesterday, festival programmers announced that the film would have its awaited premiere in March and that it would kick off the festival.“When we saw this film last fall, we instantly knew it had to open SXSW — it gave us that electric feeling we live for as programmers,” said Claudette Godfrey, the vice president of the festival, per AP News.

The film will be available to stream on Amazon Prime starting May 1st.

The announcement follows Lively's developing legal case against Justin Baldoni, a topic that some speculated would hinder the film's release date. Paul Feig, who directed the first and second films, shot the rumors down as soon as they popped up. “This is total BS. Sorry. The movie is finished and coming out soon," he said on social media.

Feig shared his excitement over the film in a statement, revealing that he was thrilled to explore these characters once more in his favorite film festival. "I’ve avoided making sequels to any of my films but these characters were just too much fun not to revisit," he said.
