It’s safe to say that Taylor Swift is the queen of not only breakup songs but breakup albums. Her heartbreak anthems have gotten us through some of the toughest moments and we love Swift for that. Almost all of the 30-year-old singer’s albums touch upon heartbreak and female empowerment, but there is one album in particular that Swift herself considers the ultimate breakup album.
In a new feature by Rolling Stone magazine and Apple Music, the Grammy-award winning singer said that she thinks her 2012 album, “Red” is her “true breakup album.”
“I look back on this [Red] as my true breakup album, every other album has flickers of different things. But this was an album that I wrote specifically about pure, absolute, to the core, heartbreak,” she said. Although it was clear that Swift was dealing with a lot when she made this album, her fans couldn’t get enough of “Red.”
This 2012 album was the singer’s first swoop into pop music which debuted at No.1 on the Billboard 200 chart and 1.21 million in its first week of sales, according to Billboard. The album also finished that year as the second best-selling album. In addition to its success in the United States, it was also the 30-year-old’s first chart leader in the U.K. and it did very well in Canada and Australia, according to Billboard.

Prior to the release of the “Red” album, Swift was dating actor Jake Gyllenhaal and fans immediately speculated the album was about him. We also can’t forget that one of Swift’s most famous songs “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” is on “Red.” We also learned that “Red” isn’t the only album that made the list, as Swift’s 2014, “1989” album came in at number 393, according to Hello Giggles.
In our opinions, Swift will always be our go-to girl for when we need a little pick me up after a heartbreak.
