In a month, excitement, nerves, and joy will fill the air in Puerto Rico as it gears up for the grand final of the 75th edition of Miss Universe. The island will buzz even more as representatives from over 80 countries take the stage in pursuit of the most coveted crown. With very little time to spare and against all odds, France has crowned its new queen, Garance Authié, as its representative at the diamond edition of the pageant.
“At 22, Paris-born Garance is an international fashion model who began her career at age nine. With a background in Business Administration and a Master's degree in Management and Finance from London, she embodies beauty, intelligence, and ambition,” shared the Miss Universe France Instagram account.
The organization also highlighted her social commitment, with a message that resonated with those in attendance: “Passionate about women's empowerment, Garance is the face of independence, authenticity, and every woman's freedom to define her own success.”
Garance reportedly comes from a Parisian family with roots in the business world, which explains her affinity for management and finance. She also has a strong interest in dance and horseback riding. She began her modeling career at age nine, and this lifestyle has led her to rub shoulders with top names in fashion and entertainment. In 2024, she was romantically linked to singer Fedez, following his divorce from Chiara Ferragni.
The Miss Universe France controversy
Garance Authié's crowning hasn't been without controversy. This past May, Miss France's leadership announced it would not participate in the 2026 edition of the pageant due to the controversies surrounding the previous edition. The decision sparked uncertainty and criticism, as it came during a landmark year for the international organization.
The Miss Universe Organization's response wasn't long in coming. Aware of how important it was to have France present at the diamond edition, a new committee, Miss Universe France, was created to handle selecting the representative going forward. It was this committee that ultimately chose Garance Authié, restoring hope among French fans and the international audience alike, despite the rushed timeline for the contestant's preparation.
