President Donald Trump is praising his wife. Earlier today, Trump gave a speech at the White House, discussing a new initiative spearheaded by First Lady Melania Trump. The initiative is called "Advancing Women's Health to Improve Outcomes in All Phases of Life" and establishes a new Women's division in the US Department of Health and Human Services.
Trump brought up Melania's contributions as he addressed members of the press and his administration. "I want to thank Melania for coming up with some of the most important ideas, probably of the administration."
"Melania has made an outstanding contribution to the well-being of America's children and families," he said, referencing her previous initiatives, "Be Best" and "Fostering the Future," which center on children and young adults.
"And now we're delighted she's bringing her extraordinary leadership and skills to help improve the health of our nation's women and girls," he said. Trump signed the executive order today.
Melania and why she's launching this new initiative
Melania's "Advancing Women's Health to Improve Outcomes in All Phases of Life" initiative expands her office's scope from children and young adults to women. The initiative is oriented around five pillars: research funding, AI-driven discovery, fast access to treatments, affordability, and becoming more transparent about women's health.
“It was abundantly clear that women’s healthcare needs to be modernized, the research gap closed, and further, the need to accelerate the discovery of treatments and cures was glaring," she said, as reported by AP.
Earlier this year, Melania provided a rare look at her daily life, revealing that it's a challenge to get the family together for everyday dinners. “My husband is working—sometimes he’s in the Oval Office till 9:30 at night, right? So do you wait that you will have dinner? You don’t, because he’s busy. I’m busy too," she said in an interview with Fox News.
“It’s less and less family time. It’s suffering because of it,” she continued. “But that’s OK. We are here to work, to do a good job, and that’s what matters. And Barron is already a young man, so sometimes he’s maybe even happy that, you know, I just want to do my stuff. And that’s okay.”
