The controversy surrounding Fátima Bosch, the reigning Miss Universe, continues following reports of an alleged lawsuit filed by Thai businessman Nawat Itsaragrisil. According to Nawat, legal proceedings are being expedited to seek an arrest warrant for the Mexican model over allegations of “defamation, false accusations and spreading false information.”

Although Nawat shared a document purportedly from Thailand’s National Police, Bosch says she has yet to receive any official notification regarding the alleged case against her.

During a tense encounter with reporters at Mexico City International Airport, the Tabasco-born beauty queen addressed the reported legal action for the first time. “Up until today, I haven’t received anything. I haven’t received any notification about any lawsuit,” she said.

Bosch also reflected on the incident involving Nawat that took place in November 2025, shortly before she was crowned Miss Universe. “What happened that day was recorded. Everyone saw it,” she said. “Unfortunately, many people have to use my name to create controversy or make themselves relevant.”

What happened between Fátima Bosch and Nawat Itsaragrisil?

The dispute dates back to November 2025, when Nawat publicly confronted Bosch over claims that she had failed to post promotional content on her social media accounts.

When Bosch attempted to speak and explain her side of the situation, Nawat repeatedly interrupted her, told her to be quiet and insulted her. The confrontation quickly gained international attention.

Now, Nawat claims he has taken legal action against Bosch for defamation, false accusations and spreading false information. Speaking about the reported lawsuit and her decision to defend herself during their confrontation, Bosch said the situation raises a larger issue about how women are treated.

“I think that, as a society, we should reflect on the fact that in the 21st century, demanding basic respect for a woman should not still be something that shocks us,” she said.

Bosch added that her attention remains firmly on her responsibilities as Miss Universe. “The only thing I can tell you is that I’m focused on my work, and many people use social media to spread misinformation and, above all, to gain attention by attaching themselves to someone else,” she said.

When asked whether Nawat, who currently serves as CEO of Miss Grand International, should continue holding leadership roles within the beauty pageant industry, Bosch declined to weigh in. “I have no comments about him or anyone else,” she responded.

Bosch was also asked about her career plans once her reign comes to an end. “Yes, I would like to do telenovelas and television shows, but right now I’m still focused on philanthropy and design,” she said.

María Vargas becomes the new Miss Universe Mexico

Last weekend, Bosch attended the national pageant to help select Mexico’s next representative for the Miss Universe competition. Following a closely contested competition, María Vargas of Jalisco was crowned the winner. Bosch placed the crown on her successor and officially said goodbye to her Miss Universe Mexico title.

Bosch had nothing but praise for Vargas and expressed confidence in her ability to represent Mexico on the international stage. “She is going to do an excellent job representing us before the world,” Bosch said. “I had the opportunity to get to know her. She has a beautiful heart and is very committed to many social causes.”
