Ana Martinez, producer of the Hollywood Walk of Fame and spokesperson for the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, confirmed that officials were alerted to apparent vandalism after a fan visited the star. “A fan went to the star yesterday and reported on social that the star was vandalized with many scratches,” Martinez said. “From the photo she posted, it does appear the star was vandalized with scratches.”
NBC Los Angeles reported that it was not immediately clear exactly when the scratches appeared. Law enforcement had been contacted for information about whether the incident was under investigation.
One fan who documented the damage on social media claimed a custodian told her that a woman had kicked candles around the memorial before using broken pieces to scratch the star. The same account alleged that a man later took flowers from the site.

The Hollywood Historic Trust also announced that Parton’s star would be replaced as part of the work. “The Hollywood Historic Trust and Hollywood Chamber of Commerce are proud to honor the legacy of Dolly Parton with a replacement of her star,” the organization said.
