It's no secret that many Hollywood romances come and go, but Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. are proof that you can make it work. After meeting on set in 1997, the couple celebrated 24 years of marriage, and they still seem to genuinely like each other.
© GettyGellar honored the couple’s 24th wedding anniversary on Tuesday, September 1, with a carousel of throwback photos on Instagram when they were at the height of their career.
“@realfreddieprinze can you imagine telling these kids where they would be 24 years later (well tech 26... but 24 married) #happyanniversary,” Gellar wrote alongside the photos.

© KMazurGellar and Prinze first met while filming the iconic I Know What You Did Last Summer in 1997. But it was a friends-to-lovers kind of story. Prinze has said they initially became friends while he was driving Gellar around during filming because she didn't have a driver's license.
“She didn’t have a driver’s license, so I was her chauffeur, and I would drive her to the gym every day and then go to the store, go get myself some lunch and then drive her back and we would just have an hour drive,” he told ET.
Their friendship eventually turned into something more. In 2000, a dinner with a mutual friend unexpectedly became a date after that friend canceled. Instead of calling the whole thing off, they decided to go to dinner anyway, and they "never looked back," according to Gellar.
By 2002, they were married in Mexico.
From two young stars to a family of four
© GettyFast forward to 2026, they are now parents to two children, daughter Charlotte,16, and son Rocky, 13. The couple has made a conscious effort to keep their kids' lives more private than their own careers, but Rocky has an IG account for speed racing, which Freddie recently reposted on his IG story.
The two have also spoken about how they make their marriage work, and privacy is one of them. “I always say I’m two people: I’m Sarah Michelle Gellar, and I’m Sarah Prinze. They’re different people,” she told PEOPLE. She's also said that making time for each other is a necessary requirement.
