Jennifer Garner is opening up about the realities of balancing motherhood with a demanding Hollywood career, revealing that while she's missed important moments in her children's lives, she refuses to feel guilty for working.

In a candid interview with InStyle, the actress shared her perspective on raising children while pursuing her career, saying she wants to model the value of hard work rather than apologize for it. "When I work, I don't apologize to my kids for it," Garner told the publication. "I do thank them for being so sweet about it. But that's part of life. Working hard is part of life, and messing up is part of life. Tripping and falling, there's room for all of it."

Jennifer Garner Reflects on Missing Family Milestones

Garner, who shares daughters Violet, 20, and Fin, 17, and son Samuel, 14, with ex-husband Ben Affleck, acknowledged that her acting career has sometimes meant sacrificing everyday parenting moments.

She revealed she's missed volleyball games, school pickups, and opportunities to be the "Lunch Mom," but says those experiences have reinforced an important lesson for her family: balancing work and home isn't always perfect.

Instead of feeling guilty, Garner focuses on showing her children that dedication and resilience are valuable life skills.

Why Jennifer Garner Put Acting on Hold

The actress also reflected on a period when her career became less of a priority as she focused on raising her children. Garner said she intentionally stepped back from acting when her kids were younger, particularly during what she described as "such an upheaval in our family."

While she didn't elaborate on the circumstances, the actress has previously spoken about prioritizing stability and family during challenging times.

Now that her children are older, she's found herself returning to acting with renewed excitement. "I'm really grateful to have this part of my life back," Garner said. "I'm still their mom, I'm not going anywhere. I'm still all in."

Jennifer Garner Is Keeping Work Close to Home

Garner's latest project is Peacock's upcoming limited series The Five-Star Weekend, based on Elin Hilderbrand's bestselling novel. Although she's embracing more acting opportunities, the actress has established firm boundaries when choosing projects.

She told InStyle she primarily accepts productions filming in Los Angeles so she can remain close to her family rather than relocate for months at a time. She also believes more Hollywood productions should film locally, saying it would help crew members avoid leaving their families behind for extended periods.

Jennifer Garner Calls Acting a "Very Selfish" Career

Despite returning to work, Garner recognizes the unique demands of her profession. She described acting as "very selfish," explaining that production schedules revolve around the actor rather than family routines like making it home for dinner.

Even so, she credited her children for supporting her throughout the years. According to Garner, Violet, Fin, and Samuel have been "such bricks" through the inevitable moments she's had to miss because of work.

Jennifer Garner's Message to Working Parents

Garner's comments offer a refreshing perspective on the challenges many working parents face. Rather than striving for perfection or apologizing for career commitments, she believes children can benefit from seeing their parents work hard, overcome setbacks, and remain committed to both family and professional goals.

Her message is that it's possible to love your children wholeheartedly while continuing to pursue meaningful work, even if that means occasionally missing a volleyball game or school pickup.
