The FIFA World Cup 2026 is in full swing, but Catalan native Gerard Piqué is far from being part of it. The former footballer is under increasing media scrutiny following a collective redundancy process (ERE) that will impact dozens of employees linked to the Kings League in Spain.

The controversial workforce reduction comes as the innovative football competition, founded by Piqué, moves forward with restructuring plans. According to available information shared by Metropoli and Diario ABC, the layoffs will affect 41 employees, representing approximately 30% of a workforce of 125 people. However, legal cooperative Col·lectiu Ronda has disputed those figures, stating that the cuts will impact 50% of a workforce of 83 employees.

Former football star Gerard Piqué is facing scrutiny over Kings League job cuts affecting up to 41 employees, while maintaining a luxurious private retreat in Bolvir, a picturesque village in the Catalan Pyrenees.

The employment reductions have sparked debate around the future growth strategy of the Kings League, a competition that has attracted millions of viewers through its blend of football, entertainment, and digital content. While the project continues to expand internationally, the planned layoffs have generated concern among workers and labor representatives.

A Private Escape Far From Barcelona's Spotlight

Away from the professional challenges surrounding the Kings League, Piqué continues to enjoy a quieter side of life in the Catalan Pyrenees. One of his most treasured properties is located in the village of Bolvir, a small municipality known for its peaceful atmosphere, mountain scenery, and exceptional climate.

Situated on the plain known as "La Solana," the area benefits from more than 300 days of sunshine annually, creating a unique microclimate despite its proximity to snow-covered peaks.

Nestled near Puigcerdà and surrounded by spectacular views of the Cadí Mountain Range, Bolvir has become a sought-after destination for those looking to disconnect from city life. Traditional stone houses, quiet streets, and a rich historical heritage define a village that remains largely untouched by mass tourism, as informed by Diario ABC.

Around a decade ago, Piqué chose Bolvir as the location for what many consider his most personal residence. Sources describe the property as a "minimalist fortress" covering approximately 2,000 square meters. Designed with privacy as a top priority, the estate combines volcanic stone, treated wood, and expansive glass surfaces to blend seamlessly into the surrounding landscape.

The project reportedly began taking shape in 2016, with architecture focused on integrating nature into everyday living. Large floor-to-ceiling windows frame panoramic views of the valley while maintaining discretion from the outside world.

The residence offers amenities typically associated with an exclusive private resort. Among its standout features are a professional padel court, extensive outdoor spaces, and a separate guest house for visitors.

Technology is also a defining element of the estate. Advanced home automation systems, geothermal heating, and sophisticated security measures reportedly form part of the property's infrastructure. Artificial intelligence-assisted monitoring and private security patrols further reinforce the home's emphasis on privacy and protection.

Despite the property's exclusivity, local residents reportedly continue to view the former defender as a familiar face in the community, often encountering him during everyday activities.

Bolvir remains one of Catalonia's most discreet luxury destinations. Combining natural beauty, privacy, and a slower pace of life.
