Jake Paul is brushing off Olivia Rodrigo’s recent joke at his expense, making it clear there’s no bad blood after her playful jab during Saturday Night Live over the weekend.
Rodrigo, 23, took on hosting duties for the iconic NBC series and opened her monologue by looking back at her early days as a child actor.
“When I was 13, I was on a Disney show called Bizaardvark, and we had an incredible cast, which included acting legend Jake Paul,” Rodrigo joked.
The Disney Channel series, which aired from 2013 to 2016, followed two best friends, Rodrigo’s Paige and Madison Hu’s Frankie, as they created quirky songs and videos for their growing online channel while balancing school life and internet fame.
Rodrigo went on to poke fun at their past conversations about the future. “And we’d always talk about our futures, me and Jake. I’d say, ‘I really wanna create music that explores the complexities of girls my age,’ and he’d say, ‘Well, one day I really wanna beat up old guys on Netflix.’”
Paul, now 29, made headlines in 2024 when he faced off against 58-year-old Mike Tyson in a heavily criticized match that streamed worldwide on Netflix.
“And we both did it, hooray!” Rodrigo concluded.
A day later, Paul responded on X with a lighthearted message showing support for his former co-star. “We had the vision [crying laughing emoji] i told you that you would sell stadiums out and then we both did proud of you fr.”
Rodrigo wrapped up her monologue with a comedic performance, putting a fresh spin on her breakout hit Drivers License. This time, she sang about getting her real ID.
“You know, a lot has changed for me since my first single ‘Drivers License,’ which was about the biggest event in my life when I was a teenager. And now that I’m older, I decided to write a new song about the most recent big event in my adult life, and I really hope it speaks to you,” she said before beginning the parody of the 2021 track.
“I got my real ID last week, showed up at the DMV. I sat there waiting 14 hours, with 9 forms to prove it’s me,” Rodrigo sang.
Her latest appearance marked her third time on SNL, but her first as host. It also served as her debut pulling double duty as both host and musical guest, after previously appearing on the show in May 2021 and December 2023.
