While Brooklyn Beckham stayed quiet online, his siblings made sure to publicly celebrate their dad David Beckham as he turned 51 on Saturday.
Back in January, Brooklyn, 27, made headlines after distancing himself from his famous family. He said he no longer wanted to be associated with “Brand Beckham” and described his parents and siblings, Romeo Beckham, Cruz Beckham, and Harper Beckham, as “performative.”
Meanwhile, the rest of the family came together to celebrate David’s birthday in a more lighthearted way, surprising him with an unusual group gift: chickens. Victoria Beckham shared a video on Instagram showing David meeting the birds for the first time at their countryside estate in the Cotswolds.
In the clip, David, wearing a cowboy hat, is seen smiling as he lifts the chickens out of their boxes and helps settle them into their coop. Filming from behind the camera, Victoria can be heard saying, “It's David's birthday and this is me and the kids bought him, from the boys, they're so pretty!”
She captioned the post, “Happy Birthday, we love you so much!!”
Romeo also posted a tribute, sharing throwback photos with his dad and writing, “Happy birthday dad, love you so much, thank u for everything you do,” and “My best mate.”
Cruz marked the occasion on his Instagram Story with photos of the two of them on a yacht, adding, “Happy birthday I love you xxx.”
Harper followed with her own heartfelt message, writing, “Happy birthday to the best daddy in the whole world”.
“I honestly could never ask for a better role model too, you are always here for me and I will always be here for you too anytime anywhere have the best day ever, you deserve everything”.
This is not the first time David has received chickens as a gift. Victoria previously surprised him with some for Christmas, and he later set up a hen enclosure on their expansive property.
The birthday celebration comes amid ongoing tension within the family. Victoria recently addressed the situation publicly for the first time following Brooklyn’s comments about their strained relationship.
“I think that we've always... We love our children so much. We've always tried to be the best parents that we can be.
“And you know, we've been in the public eye for more than 30 years right now, and all we've ever tried to do is protect our children and love our children. And you know, that's all I really want to say about it”.
Reports say David and Victoria have not spoken to Brooklyn since last May, when he and his wife Nicola Peltz did not attend David’s 50th birthday celebrations.
Since then, communication between the two sides has reportedly become more formal, with Brooklyn and Nicola’s lawyers requesting that any contact go through them. Not long before Christmas, Brooklyn also blocked his parents on Instagram, and in January, he shared a lengthy six-page statement on social media.
In it, he alleged that David and Victoria had controlled much of his life, attempted to come between him and Nicola, and even left him uncomfortable during his wedding when he claimed his mother danced “inappropriately” with him during their first dance.
