Rob and Michelle Reiner's deaths have been one of the most shocking tragedies to occur in Hollywood. In a recent post on Substack, their son, Jake Reiner, is opening up about his parents and how much he loved and admired them, describing their deaths and his brother's arrest as his "living nightmare."

Jake began his post by sharing exactly what he lived through on December 14th, when his sister Romy called him to tell him that their dad had been murdered. A few minutes later, she called again to tell him that their mother had died too. "I was robbed of so many things that day," he wrote.

“Nothing can prepare you for what it feels like to lose both parents instantly at the same time. It’s too devastating to comprehend. I still wake up every morning having to convince myself that, no, it’s not a dream. This truly is my living nightmare."

Jake supplemented the essay with childhood photos of himself and his parents, sharing a look at his family over the years.

Jake also talked about his brother, Nick, who was arrested for the murder of his parents and is currently on trial. He pleaded not guilty and has a preliminary hearing scheduled for April 29th.

"Sure, any loss of a parent is devastating, but nothing compares to losing both of them at the same time and, on top of that, having your brother be at the center of it. It’s almost too impossible to process."

Nick struggled with drug addiction and mental health throughout his teen years, with him writing the script for the film "Being Charlie," which was directed by his father and explored some of these issues.

Jake's post appears to be a way of sharing his thoughts and feelings, but also of asking the public to understand the very difficult position in which he and his family find themselves. "I understand that people have questions about what happened. Some of those answers will come in time. But some parts of this belong only to our family, and keeping them private is the only way to protect what little remains of something that was taken from us."

"I just ask for love and compassion - the same principles my parents lived by."
