Bella Hadid and Adan Banuelos' love story has turned from picture-perfect to chaotic. Less than a week after news broke that they had broken up, the cowboy was arrested for public intoxication. Then it was revealed that the model was with him hours before his arrest, leaving fans confused if they really broke up. While they haven't commented on the split, sources are still sharing updates.
According to Page Six, the relationship had been “on-again, off-again” and at times “tumultuous,” with insiders pointing to fundamental lifestyle differences. “She’s the daughter of Mohamed and Yolanda Hadid,” one source said, referencing Hadid’s upbringing with a real estate developer father and reality TV star mother. “It’s such a different way of growing up.”
One example was Hadid’s reliance on private jets, something they note is “partly out of necessity,” while Banuelos favored a quieter way of living. The model was at one point living in his trailer before buying a home in the area.
While they had a common love of rodeo and cutting, and she was even competing on his team, her modeling career kicked into overdrive, and things got rocky the busier she got. “She has a lot going on, campaigns, this and that,” the source said, adding that “when she is in supermodel mode, mere mortals can not keep up.”
While Banuelos tried to step into her orbit, insiders say it wasn’t sustainable long-term: “She tried to put him in her life, and it’s all cute, but he is in a very insular world of rodeos… He tried, but it’s too much.”
It echoed what a source had previously told Entertainment Weekly. Combined with long stretches of long-distance, “[They] both had busy schedules and were long distance [for a while]” and it ultimately “wasn’t working out," the insider said.
COWBOY DOWN
Banuelos was arrested in Texas on January 31 on a charge of public intoxication and released the same day after posting a $386 bond. TMZ later revealed it was just hours after the pair were filmed dancing together at a bar in Weatherford, Texas. No other details about his arrest have been revealed.
A source told Entertainment Weekly that Hadid has been “doing her best to stay positive and distract herself since their split,” adding, “She’s been staying busy with work and spending time with close friends. She is still processing the breakup since it was a very serious relationship.”
“She’s been really heartbroken and thought Adan was The One. Her girlfriends and her family have been lifting her up in the last few weeks," they added. “It was after the holidays and is still very recent and fresh,” an insider previously told Us Weekly, noting that Hadid “threw herself back into work and is very focused.”
Amid the split, Hadid organized and hosted the third Artists for Aid benefit concert in Los Angeles on January 10, raising over $5.5 million for the Palestine Children's Relief Fund (PCRF) and the Sudanese American Physicians Association (SAPA).
Happier times
The model told Allure their love story started when she saw him at an event. “I saw him walk in, and it was like a gust of fresh air," she said. "So he basically came in, walked into the exhibit hall, which is where we do all of the show stuff. I was getting a cowboy hat fitted. I just saw him, and I was like that’s the... I always wanted the cowboy."
She previously spoke proudly about Banuelos’ career, telling British Vogue, “He’s the youngest Mexican cowboy to ever be inducted into the Hall of Fame… He works for his family, he works for his customers, and he works to hopefully build a home and a family one day.”
Adan is the #1 NCHA Leading Open Rider in 2018, 2020, 2021, and 2022, and has amassed over five million dollars in earnings aboard a horse, according to his website. He was inducted into the NCHA Hall of Fame in 2017 as one of the youngest inductees ever, joining his dad, Ascension.
