Chrissy Teigen says one simple habit helps keep the spark alive in her marriage to John Legend, and it is a boundary she swears by at home. The model says she and her husband use separate bathrooms, a small separation she believes helps her maintain a sense of “sexiness” for her spouse of 13 years, explaining to E! News, “You got to keep the sexy and preserve the sexy in a little bit of ways.”

Teigen, who met and started dating Legend in 2006 after they filmed his Stereo music video, also added a very on-brand punchline to make her point. “For all he knows, I have never farted or pooped,” she quipped, underscoring that, jokes aside, her rule is really about keeping a little mystery in the everyday routines of marriage and saving certain realities for a private space.

That lighter moment also leads into the bigger foundation that Legend says keeps their relationship strong. Legend, who got engaged to the judge on the Netflix talent competition, Star Search, during a romantic getaway to the Maldives in December 2011, believes supporting each other is the secret to their marriage.

In September 2025, the All of Me hitmaker told Us Weekly, “Just support each other and love each other. Have each other’s back. We’ve been through it all together, so much joy, but also pain and challenge and grief. I think knowing that we have each other’s back and support each other through it all is, you know, when you have that as your foundation, it’s everything.”

Legend legally married Teigen in a New York City courthouse on September 10, 2013, followed by a stunning nuptial at Villa Pizzo in the idyllic Lake Como, Italy, four days later, and he has repeatedly spoken about how grateful he feels to share his life with her. In 2024, the 13-time Grammy award-winning artist took to social media to pen a glowing tribute to his wife on her birthday, writing alongside an image from Teigen’s 2024 Sports Illustrated photoshoot, “It’s my Queen’s birthday! You’re so beautiful, creative, brilliant, funny, and cool af. I feel so lucky to be your partner in life FOR LIFE."

The couple shares daughters Luna, 9, and Esti, 2, as well as sons Miles, 7, and Wren, 2, and they have also been open about the hardest chapters they have faced together. In 2020, they tragically lost Jack 20 weeks into her pregnancy, and on National Son Day (September 38th) in the US, Teigen honored her baby boy and admitted his premature death was “the greatest pain” imaginable.
