Britney Spears has made a rare and resolute announcement. The pop icon says her touring days in the United States are officially behind her. In a series of emotional Instagram posts shared Thursday night, the 44-year-old singer revealed she has no plans to return to stages in the States, but hinted she may be preparing for a new chapter overseas.

Her declaration came paired with a nostalgic throwback image of her 2002 American Music Awards performance of 'I’m Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman' and a second photo of her seated beside a white Yamaha piano. The piano itself became part of the announcement, with Spears saying, “Sending this piano to my son this year!!!”

Britney Spears' second Las Vegas residency, 'Domination,' was announced soon after but canceled before it was set to open.

Spears explained the deeper purpose behind them, writing, “Interestingly enough, I dance on IG to heal things in my body that people have no idea about. Yup and it’s embarrassing sometimes… but I walked through the fire to save my life.”

The singer, who shares sons Sean Preston (20) and Jayden (19) with ex-husband Kevin Federline, did not specify which son the piano is going to or which one she plans to perform with in the future. She has, however, previously praised Jayden’s musical abilities, particularly his piano skills, even calling him a genius in past posts.

A dramatic career shift:

Spears wrote, “I will never perform in the U.S. again because of extremely sensitive reasons, but I hope to be sitting on a stool with a red rose in my hair, in a bun, performing with my son… in the UK and AUSTRALIA very soon.”

She continued the tribute directly to her son, adding, “He’s a huge star and I’m so humbled to be in his presence!!! God speed, little man!!!”

Her last performances:

Spears hasn’t taken the stage in the U.S. since October 2018, when she wrapped her 'Piece of Me' tour with a performance at the Formula One Grand Prix in Austin, Texas.

Her second Las Vegas residency, 'Domination,' was announced soon after but canceled before it was set to open. At the time, she addressed fans in a heartfelt statement.

“I will not be performing my new show Domination. I’ve been looking forward to this show and seeing all of you this year, so doing this breaks my heart. However, it’s important to always put your family first… and that’s the decision I had to make," she wrote.
