After nearly two decades together, Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban have officially ended their marriage. Court documents confirm that the split was finalized in a Nashville court on Tuesday, January 6. Remarkably, neither party will pay alimony or spousal support, and the couple has waived any monthly child support obligations.
Under the agreement, Kidman, 58, will be the primary parent of their daughters, Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14, with the teens set to spend 306 days a year with her and 59 days with Urban, essentially every other weekend.
The Marital Dissolution Agreement outlines that in the event of a disagreement over major decisions regarding the children, Kidman will have final authority.
“In the unlikely event that the parties do not agree on a major decision for either minor child, [Nicole] shall have final decision-making authority,” the parenting plan states.
The agreement also confirms an amicable split of property, from household items to vehicles, bank accounts, investments, and personal belongings, with each party retaining what they already possessed.
Both will cover their own legal fees, and any remaining court costs will be divided equally. The couple finalized these arrangements prior to the official filing, with Kidman notarizing her signature on September 6 and Urban on August 29, 2025.
A quiet separation after almost two decades:
The divorce settlement follows reports from September 29 that the pair had separated after 19 years of marriage. Kidman filed for divorce the next day, citing “irreconcilable differences” and requesting to be the primary residential parent of their daughters.
A source told Us Weekly that the couple had been “quietly separated for a while now,” and that Kidman had initially hoped to salvage the marriage. “[They] needed time to figure out if they were going to actually divorce,” the insider said shortly after Kidman filed.
“She had faith they could work it out. This wasn’t Nicole’s decision, and she is devastated.” The source added that Kidman had been holding her struggles private, sharing the pain with very few friends.
“It was too far gone. Nicole had been trying to get them to work on their marriage and did not want this to get out to the public,” the source explained.
Despite the private challenges, Kidman and Urban made their last public appearances together at the 2025 Academy of Country Music Awards and a FIFA Club World Cup game in May and June. According to insiders, their lives had already begun to diverge.
“Nicole and Keith were not on the same page,” a source told the publication. “They are moving in two different directions, and their worlds are not overlapping as much as they once did. The distance between them had grown more obvious recently.”
Nicole and Keith's love story:
Kidman and Urban first met in 2005 in Australia and married a year later in Sydney. Throughout their marriage, the pair were open about navigating both highs and lows.
“We’re always working through stuff, but it’s very much love-based, so there’s an enormous amount of give and take,” Kidman told Harper’s Bazaar in 2021. “I want him to have the best life he can have, and he responds the same way. We really love parenting together.”
Urban has previously reflected on the early challenges of their marriage, admitting he nearly “blew [their] marriage” due to addiction issues. “We got married in June 2006 and barely four months into our marriage, my addictions … that I’d done really nothing about, blew our marriage to smithereens,” Urban said at the 49th AFI Life Achievement Award Gala in April 2024.
“Four months into a marriage, I’m in rehab for three months. I had no idea what was going to happen to us … and if you want to see what love in action really looks like, give that a whirl.”
He credited Kidman’s perseverance for keeping the marriage alive. “Nic pushed through every negative voice, I’m sure even some of her own and she chose love. And here we are tonight, 18 years later. That’s the thing about Nic … she loves life. I’ve actually never met anyone who has such a passion for being alive. She knows the importance of expressing feelings, as well.”
Life after divorce and new romances:
As the divorce was finalized, rumors emerged about Urban’s personal life. Media reports linked the country star, 58, to his 25-year-old tour guitarist Maggie Baugh, after a video surfaced suggesting playful interactions between them during a concert.
Further speculation connected him to another young musician, Karley Scott Collins. Neither Urban nor the women involved have commented publicly.
Meanwhile, Kidman appeared confident and poised, debuting a new hairstyle at Paris Fashion Week and appearing on the cover of Vogue shortly after the separation was made public.
Insiders noted that Urban struggled with the new reality of single life on tour. “He's got to pay the bills — and divorce lawyers don't come cheap,” a source told Woman’s Day. “He's exhausted, isolated and looking at a future he never imagined. He's also lost his best friend, Nicole, who was also his greatest supporter in life. He's wondering if he's made a huge mistake.”
