Khloe Kardashian has always been hilarious when it comes to rumors about her life. Perhaps the most infamous is the speculation that the late O.J. Simpson is actually her father, and not Robert Kardashian. Koko has addressed it in the past, and in a recent episode of The Kardashians, she and her sister Kim Kardashian joked about it right in front of Kris Jenner.
Kim embarked on a mission to get their late father's Bible, which he had gifted to O.J. in 1994 after he was arrested for suspicion of murdering his ex-wife, Nicole Brown. Koko saw a picture of it online and said they had to get it, but after Kim initially offered his estate 15k, they turned it down and put it up for auction. It went to auction, and she won it as an anonymous bidder for $80,000.
Kim surprised Khloe with it as a gift for her birthday at the family's Easter celebration in Palm Springs. With Kris at the table, Kim made it seem like they were doing a bible study before she surprised them with it. The SKIMS founder had tears in her eyes as she saw Koko realize what it was. "What assholes just do not give it to us? It's like proven he's our dad," Khloe said.
Kim went on to joke, "Well, it's questionable between which one. But either one of them, you should get it, because it was between both of them." Koko hilariously responded, "Both of my dad's. Give it to me."
Robert served as the disgraced athlete's defense attorney. “I thought it was a Bible that my dad bought O.J. and wrote in it,” Kim explained during the episode. "It’s actually my dad’s Bible with his name inscribed in it. I didn’t know that.”
People on social media have been blasting the estate for not just giving them the bible, but the executor, Malcolm LaVergne, blasted the narrative, while making a dig at Kim failing the bar. "I like how she’s trying to frame the story as I’m trying to keep it from her. No wonder she can’t pass the bar," he told TMZ.
LaVergne went on to call it a "tax write-off." "Surprise, surprise. I knew this reality show was part of the setup from the first time she called me. It’s a Win-Win. The estate gets the money, and she gets material for her show."
What Kris and Koko have said about the paternity rumors
Kris also emotionally chuckled along but didn't say anything. But the 70-year-old has expressed in the past how the rumors affected her. In 2019, on an episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, she got emotional about tabloids resurfacing the rumor that she had an affair with O.J.
“They printed a story that I was sleeping with O.J.,” she said. “That f——g piece of s——h. It’s really kind of pathetic that when rumors get started, the media gives it life and breath, and on the anniversary of Nicole’s death. It’s so tasteless and disgusting,” she said, per People.
As for Khloé, she has poked fun at the rumors before, too. In 2016, someone left a comment under a picture of her using a dog ears filter that said, “I don’t know why, but you look white in this picture.” “I don’t know… Some days I’m OJs, daughter. Others, I’m Robert’s daughter,” she replied, per Hollywood Life.
What O.J. Simpson said about it
Before his death, OJ was on the Full Send podcast in 2022, where he recalled the first time he met Kris, explaining that the late Robert Kardashian came back from a trip to New York and said, “I think I met the girl I’m going to marry. She’s an airline stewardess.” The stewardess was, of course, Kris.
After the Full Send hosts alluded to the rumors that they had an affair, OJ quickly shot them down, saying he was never attracted to her. “I always thought Kris was a cute girl. She was really nice. But, you know, I was dating supermodels!” He said with a laugh.
“No, I’ve never been attracted to her, and I never suspected she was ever attracted to me. So that was never the case.” They also brought up rumors that he could be Khloé’s father. “No. No, I’m not,” he said.
The O.J. Simpson trial
O.J. Simpson was accused and later acquitted of murdering Nicole and Ron Goldman in 1994. They were married in 1985 and divorced in 1992 after a relationship that included multiple police calls for domestic violence.
In 1997, the victims’ families sued him in civil court, where the standard of proof is lower, and the jury found him liable for wrongful death and battery. He was ordered to pay $33.5 million in damages - a judgment he largely never paid.
This civil verdict is also what eventually allowed the Goldman family to take control of his controversial "hypothetical" book about how the murders would have happened if he were responsible, If I Did It, as part of their ongoing effort to collect what they were owed.
The book was originally written with a ghostwriter, but its publication got blocked, taken over in court, and finally released years later by the Goldman family with the word “If” minimized on the cover.
His legal issues didn’t stop after the trial. He was arrested multiple times over the years, most notably in 2007, when he led an armed group into a Las Vegas hotel room to reclaim sports memorabilia he claimed had been stolen from him. He served nine years in prison before being released on parole in 2017.
Simpson died on April 10, 2024, after a private battle with cancer at the age of 76.
