Britney Spears' sons are ready to move forward with their relationship with their mother. Sean Preston and Jayden James are reportedly trying to mend their dynamic with their mom, one that has experienced a lot of ups and downs over the past years.
According to Kevin Federline, the boys' father, his sons “are trying to find a way to mend a bond between their mom," he said in an appearance on "Talk Shop Live."
“They absolutely love their mom, right? I mean, they always, always have, always will,” said Federline. “It’s instilled in them. And I’ve always wanted for them to have a connection with their mom, the way I have with my mom.”
He shared that while he hasn't talked with Spears, “I know that she’s talked to our sons, which is good."
Federline's new book, "You Thought You Knew," discusses his relationship with Spears and makes some controversial statements about her mothering, sharing that their children were afraid of her.
“I know that a lot of people think that this book hurts that situation, but we’ve done everything else,” he continued. “We’ve tried every single thing. And when you’re dealing with a situation like this, if I have to be the bad guy and everybody has to hate me, well, so be it.”
“I’ll do that for my kids to be able to have a relationship with their mother.”
More details about Spears and her sons
Spears and Federline were married for three years. Following the dissolution of their relationship, the pair has been estranged, with Spears' sons living with their father in Hawaii until they turned 18 years old.
Following the publication of Federline's memoir, Spears took to social media and made it clear that, from her point of view, the boys' father had only made her relationship with them more difficult. "I have always pleaded and screamed to have a life with my boys," she wrote on X. "Relationships with teenage boys is complex. I have felt demoralized by this situation and have always asked and almost begged for them to be a part of my life."
"Sadly, they have always witnessed the lack of respect shown by [their] own father for me. They need to take responsibility for themselves. With one son only seeing me for 45 min in the past 5 years and the other with only 4 visits in the past 5 years. I have pride too. From now on I will let them know when I am available," she concluded.
