Rocco Ritchie has had a special and enriching summer. The son of Madonna and Guy Ritchie has shared a look at his months spent in Carrara, Italy, where he studied under Tony Cassanelli, a sculptor with art studios in Tuscany and Portugal.
In a stunning post shared on Instagram, Rocco shared a look at his work, showing him in the art studio alongside Cassanelli, and some of the paintings and sculptures that he worked on through the summer.
Rocco also shared a few videos, including some footage of himself carving a wooden sculpture with a saw, giving it a shape with his carving tools, and a sweet video of himself and Cassarelli doodling together and sharing a laugh.
"This summer I had the immense privilege of spending time in the mountains of Carrara, a place as beautiful and rustic as it is timeless," he captioned the post.
"Under the guidance of my dear friend and teacher, Tony Cassanelli, I immersed myself in the traditional, classical methods of sculpture. Days were spent working, eating, and studying Michelangelo, carving our own pieces often alongside a brave live model."
He also shared a photo of his bedroom, showing a spare room with blue sheets and brick red walls, with the bed placed close to an open window. He ended the post with a group photo, showing himself alongside Madonna and other notorious figures, all dressed in their most elegant looks.
"The food was unforgettable, the locals even more so, but nothing compared to the challenge and joy of shaping something truly three-dimensional. I was honoured to share some of the work during Frieze week in London. Thank you to all who came by. More soon," concluded Rocco.
Madonna's relationship with Rocco
Rocco and Madonna have been through some challenging times in the past, particularly during her divorce from Ritchie. The pair concluded their marriage after eight years, kicking off a custody battle over their son that lasted months and that Madonna has described as one of the most challenging experiences of her life.
“Probably one of the most painful moments in my life where I honestly couldn’t see the forest through the trees was when I went through a custody battle with my son,” she said on the "On Purpose" podcast hosted by Jay Shetty. “Someone trying to take my child away from me, it was like you might as well just kill me. That’s really how I was thinking.”
“A lot of people’s marriages don’t work out,” she said. “They marry the wrong people. They’re not aligned, they’re not meant for each other.”
Through the painful process, Madonna reveals that she and her son created a stronger bond. “I’m now really good friends with my son.”
