Chrissy Teigen has always been known for her unfiltered honesty, and this week, she reminded everyone why she’s one of the most refreshingly open voices in Hollywood. In a new interview with People, the 39-year-old model and TV personality opened up about her decision to publicly share that she used the weight loss medication Ozempic, explaining that it came from a place of transparency and healing.

“I knew it would resonate,” she said. “Since the beginning of social media, I've always wanted people to know that things weren't as fluffy and beautiful as they may seem.”

A Moment of Truth After Heartbreak

Teigen revealed that her decision to speak out about Ozempic was deeply personal, tied to her emotional and physical recovery after suffering a miscarriage five years ago. She lost her son, Jack, at 20 weeks, and said that grief and her changing body left her feeling “stuck.”

“My body was completely stuck,” she said on the Self-Conscious podcast in September. “I really let myself indulge when I was pregnant. So, when I had lost that baby at 20 weeks, I had probably gained an extra 40 pounds that I wasn't comfortable with.”

She described going through “a deep depression of seeing this pregnant belly with no baby in it,” a feeling many women sadly understand all too well. That experience, she said, shaped how she viewed self-care and the importance of being open about it.

The Power of Transparency

For Teigen, being candid about using medication wasn’t about promoting it but about normalizing honesty. She said she wanted to make people “feel a lot better about themselves,” especially in a world where perfection is often faked online. “It’s not about striving for perfect,” she explained. “It’ll never truly fulfill you. But people are going to make their own decisions about their bodies and what will make them feel healthy and safe and proud of themselves.”

She added that she tries to model this kind of openness for her four children — Luna, 9, Miles, 7, and toddlers Esti and Wren — whom she shares with husband John Legend. “Because I would want my daughter … or son, if Miles wants to venture into hair plug territory or something, I would want them to know that it's not about pretending to be perfect,” she said.

She admits it can be “frustrating” when others online don’t share beyond the gloss, but she remains committed to being “completely transparent,” even when it invites criticism.

Her openness doesn’t stop at body image. Recently, the Sports Illustrated alum also spoke about her “polarizing” friendship with Meghan Markle — and why their kids don’t have playdates. “I knew it would really resonate and make a lot of people feel a lot better about their families, themselves, their own bodies,” she said.
