Julia Fox has made a rare red carpet appearance with her son Valentino, months after being excluded from his baptism. The 35-year-old actress, who shares her four-year-old son with ex-husband Peter Artemiev, attended the premiere of her new supernatural horror film Him at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood on Wednesday.
The public outing came after Julia claimed in an emotional TikTok video earlier this year that she was “gaslit” by Peter and his family after learning her son had been secretly baptized. She said she only discovered the ceremony long after it took place and was never invited or consulted about the decision.
The Night Always Comes star recalled how she found out when Peter casually mentioned it at their son’s school. She explained, “I went to my son’s school for his school performance, his dad was there, he came late as usual. And then I had to help load some stuff in my car, so we were walking to my car, and he points to this church, and he goes, ‘Oh, this is where Valentino was baptized.’ I was like, ‘What?’ And he goes, ‘Yeah, this is where he was baptized.’”
Julia said she pressed him on why she wasn’t invited. “I was like, ‘Well, why wasn’t I invited?’ And he was like, ‘You were invited, you just didn’t want to come.’ And I was like, ‘OK. First of all, don’t tell me what I was and was not invited to. Like, absolutely not. If I was invited to something like that, I would go. I would remember. And if I wasn’t invited, I would still have a picture or something. Like no one told me anything about this.’ He was like, ‘Yes, we did, you didn’t want to come, you said you didn’t care.’ And I was like, ‘Bro!’”
Watch Julia Fox tell her story:
She explained that the exchange brought her back to their relationship. “It took me back to being in that relationship, of being gaslighted over and over and over until then I freak out and then do something and then he calls me abusive, but it’s reactive abuse, and then that’s what happens when you’re being mentally and emotionally, and psychologically and physically abused.”
The Uncut Gems actress later confronted her ex-mother-in-law, who told her a priest had said the baptism was “a Russian Orthodox thing” and only Russian Orthodox people could attend. Julia recalled, “Anyway, so he was like, ‘Yeah, you were invited, you were invited,’ and I was like, ‘OK word.’
She continued, “So I called his mom. And I went off on her. And I said, ‘Why the hell was I not invited to this?’ And she was like, ‘Well, the priest said that it was like a Russian Orthodox thing, and only Russian Orthodox people could come.’ And it’s like, ‘Wow, now I see where this man gets it from. Don’t gaslight me. That is a b******* excuse, I am this child’s mother. You are not his mother.’”
Julia said her ex-mother-in-law admitted she assumed she “wouldn’t care.” She continued, “And I was like, ‘Listen lady, your son doesn’t care. I care very much, and you just robbed me of an experience.’ And then she was like, ‘What are you going to do, punish me now, are you not going to let me see Valentino?’
"And it’s like, ‘Dude, I don’t operate like that. Like, my son loves you, cause he doesn’t know any better, so I’m not going to do that to him. But now I know...now I’ve actually always known, but now I have the confirmation of how you people operate and you’re all trash.’”
She ended her message with a warning for other women. “Girls, please, please, from the bottom of my heart. Who you have a child with will dictate the rest of your life. Do not have a child with a loser.”
