Miley Cyrus has some criticism for her mother Tish. The singer and actress was joined by her mother and sisters in a new interview, with all of them discussing topics like family and dating. When it comes to men, Miley shared the worst advice that her mother gave her, one that she had to spend years trying to unlearn.
Miley was joined by Tish and her sisters, Brandi and Noah. “Mom’s always wanted me to stay with the wrong guy cause they're hot,” said Cyrus in an interview with The Cut. She shared that she had to learn on her own that other things matter more than looks when it comes to finding the right partner.
Tish stood by her advice, saying, "At least you get to look at somebody that’s frigging hot!"
“I ended up with a person who means a lot to me and treats me really well and respects me,” said Miley, referencing her boyfriend, Maxx Morando.
“I had to learn that the hard way because my mommy taught me the wrong way and then I had to learn the right way by myself.”
“I had to find someone who treats me with respect and then Mom never really put that on the top three of her must-haves,” she continued, to the agreement of her sisters. “Mom was like, They need to be tall. My man’s hot as hell too. But my man also respects me.”
Despite the criticism they aimed at their mother, Miley and her sisters recognized that Tish had learned from her mistakes. "Mom also has evolved," said Brandi. In 2023, Tish married the actor Dominic Purcell, with the couple remaining happy together.
“That’s because she found someone that is hot and respects her,” said Miley. “That’s always the goal.”
Miley lets go of the family drama
Earlier this year, Miley Cyrus revealed that her family was in a much better place after years of drama and miscommunication.
“My family and I have had a really difficult… What did you call your decade? Dark decade. Yeah, we had one of those,” said Miley in an appearance on Monica Lewisnky's podcast, "Reclaiming."
“That was a really important part of my year this year, was all of my family putting those lines of communication back together. A lot because of, you know, I had a lot of loyalty to my mom, the way that families do when parents get divorced.”
