Bella Thorne just surprised her fans--and her fiancé--by getting down on one knee, even though she’s already engaged.
The former Disney Channel star made a point of proposing to her fiancé, British producer Mark Emms, sharing the sweet moment in a video she shared to social media.
“3 years ago we met, 1 year later he proposed, now year 1 later, so did I,” Bella wrote in her caption. A video clip in the photo dump included her popping the question to her 45-year-old partner, getting down on one knee and surprising him.
Mark definitely seemed shocked by the romantic gesture, covering his mouth before dropping down to his knees and joining his fiancée on the ground before saying yes. The move left fans divided--While some called the proposal “sweet” and praised the actress for flipping tradition, others were confused about why she proposed when the couple was already engaged.
“Girl stand up. I’m saying this with love,” one fan wrote. Another asked, “If he had already proposed. Why did you do it? I’m confused.” Others insisted, “Don’t ever propose to a man,” while some defended Bella, saying people should “let her cook” and do things her way.
Bella and Mark first got engaged back in 2023, after just nine months of dating. Mark, who works as a producer and bar owner, first met Bella at Cara Delevingne’s birthday party. The star previously told People that they have already gone to therapy together as they prepare for marriage.
“We’re still really learning each other’s traits, and trying to get them right before we get married,” she said. Bella added that wedding planning has been a “wow” experience and that “every day we kind of draw closer. It’s really like, ‘Oh wow, we’re really, and you’re my partner.’ Let’s do this together.”
Thorne prepping for marriage comes after she recently spoke out about another relationship of hers, calling out Charlie Puth, who she was briefly linked to in late 2016. The 27-year-old actress alleged that Charlie “lied to the entire world about me and started a hate train” because she wouldn’t sleep with him.
If you didn’t know, Bella and Charlie were linked in December 2016 after he brought her to Jingle Ball in Miami as his guest and serenaded her from stage. Before the concert, they were spotted on the beach together. Fast forward to 2025, Bella left a comment after Jade Thirwall mentioned Charlie as the one artist she “wouldn’t collaborate” with.
Bella commented on the @PopFaction post and wrote, “Yeah I mean .. he lied to the entire world about me and started a hate train. All because I wouldn’t …. Do the deed with him.”
