Halle Berry's ex is airing some of his grievances. David Justice, Berry's husband from 1993 to 1997, recently opened up about their relationship in a podcast, sharing that, from his point of view, Berry has some of the fault for the rupture of their marriage.
© Neilson BarnardJustice, who's a retired baseball player, was featured on Matt Barnes' podcast "All the Smoke," sharing that problems in the relationship started to appear when they were five months into their marriage. “My knowledge and understanding, as well as my wisdom around relationships, just wasn’t vast,” said Justice.
“I’m looking at my mom, and I’m a Midwest guy, so in my mind I’m thinking a wife at that time should cook, clean—traditional, you know?”
Justice then said that the prospect of having kids with Berry, a woman who traveled often because of her work, made him reconsider the relationship. “Okay, if we have kids, is this the woman I want to have kids with and build a family with?” he asked himself.
© WireImage“At that time, as a young guy, she don’t cook, don’t clean, don’t really seem, like, motherly. And then we started having issues,” he said.
Justice also shed light on the beginning of their relationship, claiming that Berry was the one who wanted to pursue something more serious. “She asked me to marry her after knowing me for five months," he said. "And I said okay, because I couldn’t say no. I mean, who’s going to say no at that time?”
Even though Justice has a lot of feelings about the relationship, he claims that it could have been saved with some work. "We honestly probably could have made it if I knew about therapy," he said.

Halle Berry has been married three times, first to Eric Benet and later to Olivier Martinez. She has two kids: Nahla Ariela, 19, whom she shares with Gabriel Aubry, and Maceo Robert, 11, shared with Martinez.
She's now dating the musician Van Hunt, with the two beginning their relationship in 2020. Earlier this year, he revealed that he'd proposed to Berry, and that he was still waiting for an answer. “Well, I’ve been married three times," explained Berry on "Today with Jenna and Friends."
"Van has been married once, and so no, we don’t feel like we have to get married to validate our love in any way. We don't,” she said.
