Lola Consuelos has learned to appreciate her parents as she's grown older. The middle child of Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos was featured on Ripa's most recent podcast episode, with the two discussing their bond, the complex dynamics between parents and kids, and more.
In the latest episode of "Let's Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa," the show's host revealed that Lola was her "most wanted podcast guest." The pair discussed their dynamic and the shift they experienced when Lola left for college.
"For me, I think when I went to university in my first year, I was not happy at all. And also, it's so hard because your other friends that you grew up with in high school are also going through the same thing," said Lola.
"They're at a new school for the first time, and you don't really wanna bother them, and a lot of them made great choices and went to much more fun schools who are probably actually having a good time."
The most important opinion
Lola revealed that the only people she felt like she could turn to were her parents, Mark and Kelly. "Most cases, when you're growing up, your parents are always like, 'I'm just telling you, when you're older, you're gonna wish you listened to me,'" she said. "And there are so many times in my life where I'm now like, 'Oh my god. I completely get it.'"
Lola said that her situation helped her understand her parents' intentions, with their opinion being the one she values the most now.
Still, she made it clear that growing up is a two-way street, and that both kids and parents need to change and learn for the dynamic between them to improve and grow closer as everyone grows up and takes on different paths. "I think it's not just a kid thing," she said.
"I think parents have to grow as well and understand that when your child is an adult now, we can make our own decisions for ourselves and live with them."
