Cher turns 79! Ellen DeGeneres turns back time in honor of her birthday

It's Cher's birthday, and the living legend is officially 79 years old. Born on May 20, 1946, she is debatably one of the most famous Tauruses to ever live.

After decades in entertainment, she has made many celebrity friends and shared some incredible moments on screen. One of those is Ellen DeGeneres, who took the time to wish her a special birthday by turning back time and sharing an old clip of them on her show. 

Back in 2018, Cher and DeGeneres took over a dry bar and surprised fans by giving them hair makeovers. The duo teased each other and tried to sabotage each other's makeovers before settling on some epic and colorful wigs. "It’s @Cher’s birthday, so I turned back time... and watched this clip 12 times," Degeneres wrote in the caption.

The former host even serenaded Cher, trying her best to remember the lyrics. Degeneres also questioned the song's lyrics, asking Cher if she wrote her famous anthem, to which she admitted, "No." "If you can reach the stars, you can't really give them to someone because they would be hot. That doesn't even make sense," she jabbed.

Cher’s impact is legendary. She’s the only artist to have a number-one song in six consecutive decades, and she’s won an Oscar, Grammy, Emmy, and Golden Globe. The icon broke through as a solo artist and TV star in the ’70s, challenged norms around gender and aging, and set fashion trends that still influence pop stars today.

Cher's love life

Like Madonna, Cher has been living her best life with a younger boyfriend. They first went public in 2022 during Paris Fashion Week, and while they broke up in 2023, they reconciled and have been going strong since.

Last month, there was speculation that they broke up after he went to Coachella without her and was spotted partying with women, but a source confirmed to TMZ they are "still together romantically and are very happy."

At the time of this publication, neither of them has posted for her birthday, and it's unclear what they are doing to celebrate.

While she once had an opportunity to date Elvis, she revealed recently why she likes dating younger men. “The reason I got with young men is because men my age or older, well, now they’re all dead,” she hilariously told Jennifer Hudson in 2024. “But before, they just never [did.] They were always terrified to approach me, and younger men were the only ones that were raised by women like me.”
