She also shared a photo of him alongside his The Fall Guy co-star, Emily Blunt. "My man is the F best!" she wrote in the caption. “Unfortunately, success is almost only measured by the box office,” Mendes continued.
“So I’m extra proud of my man for turning his entire Fall Guy press tour into a campaign to get stunts recognized by the Oscars. And now after almost 100 years of stunt design not being acknowledged by the Academy, it’s officially a category!! This is a HUGE success! And an achievement that will last. Congratulations to the incredible stunt community!!” She concluded.
The heartfelt post is one of the few times Mendes has publicly acknowledged Gosling on social media. The couple - who’ve been together since filming The Place Beyond the Pines in 2011—are known for keeping their relationship and family life incredibly private. Mendes rarely shares personal details, especially when it comes to Gosling, so fans knew this moment was a big deal.
The news is long overdue. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences officially announced this week that a new category for stunt coordination and performance will be introduced at the 98th Oscars in 2027.
It’s a historic shift that follows decades of calls from within the industry to recognize the contributions of stunt teams, who are responsible for bringing some serious talent and realism to films.
Gosling has been vocal throughout The Fall Guy press tour about the need for this recognition, using red carpets, interviews, and even sketches on SNL to champion the cause. The film itself is a love letter to stunt performers, and it looks like the message landed.
