Summer is officially over, which means it’s almost spooky season. The origins of witches and witchcraft go back to ancient prehistoric times when people embraced animism and nature-centered spirituality. During this era, these early practitioners were often regarded as shamans with deep knowledge of herbs, the art of healing, and rituals. Since then, the practices have grown, with different cultures around the world embracing it, including some celebrities. Check out 7 celebrities who are admittedly witches or have been associated with witchcraft.

Vanessa Hudgens

Vanessa Hudgens told Nylon in April 2023, that she’s always felt drawn to witchcraft, blatantly telling the outlet “yes” when they asked if she felt like a witch. “I’ve always been drawn towards the darkness and the unknown, as well as herbalism ever since I was a kid. And nature. I always felt the most grounded and connected when I was surrounded by trees.” She said she had her awakening when filming one of the Princess Switch movies, and being a witch to her means, “connecting to my angels, my ancestors, my spirit guides, my spiritual brigade.” She also revealed she has the gift of “vision” and has seen ghosts for as long as she can remember.

Gisele Bündchen

Gisele Bündchen’s ex-husband, Tom Brady, has done most of the talking when it comes to her being a “witch.” In a 2019 interview, he said Bündchen had him do pregame rituals. When the Patriots beat the Rams in the Superbowl he said in an interview, “Right after the game, she said, ‘See, I did a lot of work. You do your work. I do mine,’” per CBS Sports. “She said, ‘You’re lucky you married a witch, I’m just a good witch.’” The model later told Vanity Fair in March 2023, “If you want to call me a witch because I love astrology, I love crystals, I pray, I believe in the power of nature, then go ahead.”

Lana Del Rey

Lana Del Rey confirmed in 2017 that she encouraged her fans to joins a mass hex against Donald Trump. In February, the singer tweeted: “At the stroke of midnight… Feb 24, March 26, April 24, May 23… Ingredients can b found online.” The dates are associated with the waning crescent moon phase, which the occult believe is conducive to releasing stress and dispelling negative energy. “Yeah, I did it. Why not? Look, I do a lot of s**t”, she told NME. “I’m in line with Yoko [Ono]and John [Lennon] and the belief that there’s a power to the vibration of a thought. Your thoughts are very powerful things, and they become words, and words become actions, and actions lead to physical charges.”

Madonna

Madonna has always been spiritual, and people have always wondered if she is a witch. Like Lana Del Rey, she put some of her energy into Donald Trump. In 2016, she told Harper’s Bazaar on election night, “It was just like watching a horror show. And then [my friend] was reading from the Quran, and I was reading from the Zohar,” referring to the collection of stories about Jewish mysticism. “We were doing everything: lighting candles, meditating, praying, offering our lives to God forever, if only,” she said. In 2020, she also shared a video of her meditating with a Native Indian smudge ceremony, a shell, sage, and an eagle feather.

Beyoncé

Beyoncé has seemingly never addressed it, but in 2018, she was accused of practicing “extreme witchcraft” by Kimberly Thompson, a drummer who, in court documents obtained by The Blast, said she worked for Beyoncé for seven years and accused her of “dark magic.” According to the outlet, a judge threw out the case, but social media still went wild with it.

Naomi Campbell

Back in 2007, news reports claimed Naomi Campbell was joining Brazil’s African-based Candomble faith, an ancient religion centering around a pantheon of Orixás, spiritual entities that represent the forces of nature. Tuca Franchini, one of Brazil’s leading witch doctors said in an interview with Standard, she was taking a “passionate” interest in the mythical faith. But she shut down the rumors with the New York Daily News saying, “I’m Church Of England. Protestant. I was christened that.” “I went to a party for a guy whose birthday it was. I don’t discriminate against what religion people have,” she continued, adding “That’s what he does, but it doesn’t mean I have to be involved in it.”
